A poster that asserts he really wants the signings done soon is "counterintuitive" and a "distraction"? Come on.
How would you classify your post?
Sorry if it seems like I'm picking a fight but I see no reason why established posters should be criticizing someone for expressing a completely benign sentiment.
And I hope to hell these signings get done soon. Seems it's making me grumpy. Anyone feel like arguing about Jankowski?

He absolutely cannot be set to become a UFA at 27 like Stamkos.

How will our window be closing in 5 years?
We're arguably still in the middle/near the end of our rebuild right now.
In 5 years the following players will be:
Monahan-26
Johnny-27
Dougie-27
Brodie-31
Bennett-25
Tkachuk-23
They will all be in the prime of their careers. That's not even considering some of our prospects who should be making an impact in the NHL in 5 years.
There is no way in hell I sign Johnny to a 4 year deal, I max him out, even if it means throwing $7.5MM at him. He's going to be a 90-100pt player pretty soon

No one disagrees with wanting to max him out. The point is he might not want to sign a long term 7-8 year deal in which case he becomes the most valuable on a 4 year deal.

Pardon my ignorance, but why would he be more valuable to us if we only sign him to a 4 year deal...

That way he's an RFA and you can trade his rights or try to extend him before anyone else talks to him vs. signing him to 5 or 6 where you get him for an extra year but then he walks for nothing. I think if his camp makes it clear that he wants out after 5 years then you sign him for 4 and decide at that point if it's worth trying to win with him for 1 more year or if it's better to ship him off to his desired team in the east for big assets.
Really depends on how the rebuild goes. It's easy to think we'll be contending in 5 years so an extra year of Johnny would be worth it but I mean, things don't always work out. Bennett and Tkachuk don't live up to expectations and Gio declines quicker than we hope and those assets we could get for Johnny as an RFA could be quite needed. Obviously that's a close to worst case scenario of course but one you consider.

10 Scandalous FACTS about Jankowski (#7 will SHOCK you!)
Jankowski scrapes the cheese off pizza. Claims he's lactose intolerant but has been spotted drinking coffee with large servings of cream. Liar?
Jankowski goes 99 in the left lane on Deerfoot and doesn't move over when someone is trying to pass him. Inattentive or rude?
We have an exclusive scoop from an ex that Jankowski made her pay for meals at Taco Time and would get really flatulent afterwards!

Well by then you are resigning bennett, tkachuk, brodie, hamilton et al and he is probably assuming Gio isn't worth his contract which has a good chance to be correct. In other words more likely a window closing due to salary.

Lol, it's not so bad actually... it's only when the Flames win or do something like win a big trade, so it's lots of schadenfreude involved.

I hope Monahan and Johnny sign the same deal. And that Monahan finally starts getting the recognition he deserves.
I'm literally sick of people saying ridiculous things like he's a 2nd line C.

Just looked up Monahan's percentages of face-offs , I wouldn't think 51% of face-offs is outstanding . Amen to that .

It seems to me a large chunk of the remaining RFAs are somewhat big names in Orlov, Nichushkin, Ristolainen, Rackell, Lindholm, Ceci, Girgensons, Strome, Reider, Kucherov. Add Johhny and Mony to the mix and thats 12 of the 25 remianing RFAs listen on capfriendly as unsigned.

The only guys you listed there that are comparable to Monahan and Gaudreau are Kucherov, Lindholm and maybe Ristolainen (only one good season though). In my eyes there are four big name RFAs out there still, two play for the Flames... the rest of those guys are pretty much just depth players or unproven.
I stand by my point that most of these upper echelon guys are signed well before August, adding the names you did just muddies what I was trying to say.

yes that was a pleasant surprise this year for how big of a step he took. Hopefully next year he can take a similer step in the skating and defensive aspects of the game

Johnny was high in league scoring this year (what, 7th or something?).
Prepare for more than 7.5/year.

Hudler was 8th in league scoring the year before and he is looking for a job.
I know facts are totally different but my point is that we shouldn't have to pay Johnny the same as if he was top 10 in league scoring for 5 years running.
This contract is more about potential than accomplishment IMO. And yeah, I agree he will be pricey.

The latest from Friedman:
http://www.todaysslapshot.com/nichol...oulder-flames/
Quote:
Friedman was also asked about the latest on the contract negotiations between the Flames and the camps of restricted free agents Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau.
“You know, I haven’t heard a ton,” said Friedman in the interview, which aired a week ago. “Brad Treliving had an availability the other day when Brian Elliott was in Calgary meeting the media and he said there wasn’t much going on there. The last I checked on Gaudreau, there really hadn’t been a ton. And also same with Monahan.
“I think both players are looking at these big deals that are happening now and they’re not bridge deals anymore. They are long-term deals. You look at Mark Scheifele. You look at Nathan MacKinnon. You look at some of the contracts that have been signed, those players believe they are in that area. In that number. I know if the Flames want to sign those players to long-term deals, the agents have asked for big numbers. So I think it’s still something that’s being grinded away between the two sides.”

I had a dream last night that Treliving traded Monahan and Gaudreau to Tampa Bay(!) in exchange for Nikita Nesterov and Kristers Gudlevskis.
He appeared on Sportsnet later in the day, saying: "In our opinion, these are two very, very, good players who are very replaceable. How would you rather spend your money: on defensemen or forwards?"
Wacko Dream Brad confirmed his madness later in the day by signing Dennis Wideman to an 8-year, $68 million contract extension, and by trading Sam Bennett, Paul Byron(?) and Matthew Tkachuk to Las Vegas for future considerations. Calgarypuck fell into chaos. The rivers ran dry. The sky turned a blood-like shade of red.
Then I woke up. I immediately logged on to my computer to ensure none of which I had dreamed actually happened.

According to this from Elliot Friedman it seems more likely that the Gaudreau and Monahan camps are the ones pushing for term, which also means a higher dollar value of the contracts. It makes sense to me that the Flames are more inclined to bridge them in hopes of providing more cap flexibility in the next two or three years; especially so since this is affecting both players, and in the light of comments about signing long-term deals from the players' side and not management's.
