The good news, Montreal fans, is Shea Weber comes with some cap recapture penalties when he retires.

Oof, that's just brutal. I'm can't believe Geoff Molson allowed this to go through. As soon as I'd have gotten wind of it, I'd have told Bergevin that if he pulled the trigger on this deal, he would get fired.
Actually, from what I've heard, it was actually his idea.

No one would want to damage the brand this way unless they were the ones calling the shots.

Will also be interesting to see if the Preds choose to retain Subban's upcoming NTC/NMC

So, it sounds like they traded Subban for supposed "character issues" less than 48 hours after signing a guy who just got fined for calling a ref a ######.

Amazing.

What was his idea? I got the impression Bergevin/Therrien have disliked Subban for a while now and that Molson was one of his fans.

Either way, it doesn't look good on Molson. Either he suggested it or said yes, in which case he's an idiot. Or he didn't say yes and let it happen, in which case he's an idiot. Massive PR black eye for that franchise.

Outwardly Subban was doing the right things. But don't have to scratch too far to see some of his antics which may get irritatiting.

Because he's a smiling guy off the ice it's played off of as having fun and being competitve, and while I don't mind it at all, can see how just that may rub some the wrong way, nevermind what may be going on behind the scenes.

And who knows what he's like in the room and if his ego has taken over.

Given the magnitude and optics of a star player in Montreal, and it is the Habs, surely all that was taken into account, yet still the trigger was pulled.

Absolutely terrible for Montreal. I have no idea why they were so into running PK out of town.

They go to battle over his contract where he eventually settles and takes a bridge deal only to go out and win the Norris trophy that year.

Then he signs his long term deal and becomes one of the most influential and beloved hockey players in the league. Creates strong roots in the community and established himself as a real role model for kids while donating 10 million dollars to the children's hospital.

As this is going on there is constant backlash that he is "too" outgoing. Along with these comments there are consistent rumors about trading him.

Now it's finally happened and what do they have to show for it? A declining Shea Weber who is signed for 10 more years and comes with recapture penalties when he eventually retires?

Downright tragic for Montreal, PK will thrive in Nashville- the fans will appreciate him the way he deserves. Great move by Poile.

Even though Nashville has already paid half of the real dollars in that Weber contract, but we're still willing to move it for PK says a ton. Franchise altering move for Nashville.

Voiding his NTC seems like a good way to start the relationship off on the wrong foot.
