On one hand, it's surprising. But on the other hand, why wouldn't a club take a chance on a 1-year deal? He strikes me as the kind of player who struggles with motivation, hence him disappearing for stretches, so a change of scenery could light a fire under his ass to get going for 35-50 games a year. If it's a low dollar deal, a GM gets his money's worth.

Even if he gets a $1.5M contract somewhere, with the $1.05M the flames are paying out for him to do nothing, it works out to be a pretty good contract.
