If Treliving cared that much, he would have made sure the events were scheduled at a time when he was available to attend.

He also likely wouldn't have taken the job. Burke was a bit of a known entity before Treliving was hired, and if anything Burke has been 14 million times quieter then anyone would have expected when the Flames hired him.

Or BB and BT pre-planned it and is totally OK with it.

So Burke is trying to claim Bouma came up with Kevin Jokipakka? Haha. Or did I mishear that?

Burke says there's the big 3 and then theres about 6 after them they're looking at. Kind of again flips on himself from earlier quotes where he said there was a hard ledge 4-6.

Also, now that I think about it, the first STH session he said the hard ledge was before the Flames amateur scout meetings this week.

Maybe they updated the list.

And like I said in the other thread Burke's latest statement matches what Conroy said on Tuesday which was after the first set of amateur meetings.

When you are continually misleading media you are going to eventually contradict yourself. While it may not be as extreme as the lying season in the NFL where teams may purposely leak exaggerated concerns about medical reports and injuries of draft prospects you still can't believe a single thing any team employees say regarding the draft from now to the draft.

1. American roster selection was hard work to finalize
2. Flames coaching stuff, nothing really new to report.
3. Flames world cup players stuff. Lots of Jokipakka about Kevin, availability for the world cup due to hip surgery.
4. LGBT and charity stuff.
5. 2 minutes of draft talk that we've covered. Nothing monumental.

If you look up a few posts you will see that the source of this bit of information clarified his tweet to show that this was his own comment. Burke never said that Jokipakka would remain unprotected in expansion.

Regardless, the point remains. People get way way too worried about players getting hurt feelings when they hear what Burke or others say in the media. So much panic for example about Burke saying Johnny was small. Like Johnny doesn't realize he's small, or like Burke doesn't talk to Johnny except through the media.

I'm not even sure it's that. Burkes message and Treliving's message are generally pretty consistent when I hear them talk. All this supposed contradiction is mostly fans micro analyzing everything they say, taking everything far too literally, and assuming theres only way to interpret the comments.

Don't get me wrong, I do agree he's dropping some smoke bombs and it's on some level gamesmanship with the other teams, but a lot of it is fans wanting to be able to draw firm conclusions from things he says and getting frustrated if there's grey after they hear him talk a few times and decide he's contradicting himself. And some of it is with a polarizing guy like Burke, his detractors are literally looking to catch him in a contradiction cause it makes them feel good to call him a liar or say he doesn't know what he's thinking and they micro analyse everything he says.

I wonder if these sessions serve any useful purpose going forward. Supposedly a way to give your most important customers some insights into what the team is thinking and doing. Since it's all public info you're left wondering what's real, what's bluster and what is misdirection.

Really? I think if people simply understand that the GM or whoever can't completely play their hand in public, it's pretty interesting info. You don't know everything but we certainly get a sense of things which to me makes it even more fun to speculate on what they will do, and then even more fun after the fact to look back on what they said and go, oh that's what they were alluding too.

Peoples need for instant gratification and refusal to wait to know everything is getting out of hand. It's way nicer to get a peak behind the curtain and have to read between the lines and speculate a little than not get anything.

I hear you. It's not about instant gratification though. It's about whether you are being told the truth and whether you can discern between insight and hot air. No longer living in Calgary, so I have never been. If you really do get a sense of their thinking then that's great. It's hard to tell from some of the tweets and such.

Maybe it's more about my issues with Burke. I think his work is generally OK. I just get tired of his bluster and I really don't believe much of what he says.
