Actual order drawn in the lottery wins:
Toronto wins with 6-8-5-13. Winnipeg wins with 5-10-7-14. Columbus wins with 5-7-3-4.
Based on the way the lottery is set up, after 3 balls, there would still be 11 possible winning combinations for each draw. If you look at the numbers assigned to the Flames, they did not have any live combinations in any of the three draws after the third ball was drawn.

I'm pretty indifferent on the outcome. Glad the Oilers and Canucks dropped and are not picking top 3. I also think there is way to many people in this thread who think Dubois will still be available at 6, that will absolutely not happen barring a miracle.

Tkachuk isn't as skilled as Nylander but he fights for every inch of ice, goes to the dirty areas and seems to get better when the games count the most. Personally I would take Tkachuk over Nylander but only because of need, they both are LW and neither are likely to push Gaudreau from his #1 LW perch but Tkachuk's size and willingness to play a harder game sells me...but it's close.

I agree with Dubois, he's the only one with a real chance of being better than the consensual top 3. He's a beast.

If Dubois and Tkachuk are gone by 6, I wouldn't mind Logan Brown.

The Oilers and Canucks could easily both take defensemen.

They'd absolutely trade down first, and they'd be crazy not to.

With a top 6 in a draft with a very strong top end we should be looking to get one of the hardest to find and most valuable commodities in the NHL which are:
-Top 3 defencemen
-Big, skilled top two line centres
-1st line powerforwards

Nylander is none of those. Purely skilled wingers with average size are an easy commodity to trade for.
I am not saying Flames should pick Nylander over Tkachuk or Dubois but if he is the only option, we'll probably get a skilled winger who can play with Bennett in the 2nd line. Bennett is not afraid to go in front of the net. So yeah I won't be disappointed if we ended up with him. Isn't he supposed to be a better all-around player than his brother William?

What might make sense (but won't happen) is Flames trade 6th plus either Andersson or Kylington for 4th with the Oilers. Oilers get a good D prospect and Chychrun or Juilevi and Flames get Tkachuk or Dubois.

If nothing happens wouldn't be too upset with Nylander

If Dallas gets to the Conference finals if we offer them 6 + Dallas 1st, + a 2nd could that get it done?
Not a chance Jarmo Kekalainen lets the Finn get away. Not a chance.

I want Brad on the phone with Kevin Cheveldayoff right now, offering him 6 + the Stars' 1st (if we get it) + for 2.

Yes Edmonton and Vancouver might be stupid, but other teams will offer them something for their spot so they can drop, get a Dman and another asset.
How often does the top 5 go exactly as planned? Recently, I would say that 2014's top 5 was pretty solid. It had the top 4 in any order, than Dal Colle. But even then some people thought Ehlers had a potential top 5 status (and those people don't seem too wrong right now) or even Ritchie as a wildcard. 2009 was also pretty set, but as a consolation it was Ekman who went in his projected 6th spot and he's easily ahead of Duchene, Kane and Schenn. I might even prefer him to Hedman. Maybe you can make a case for 2015's top 5 being set, but every once in awhile you had people making a case for Provorov as the top D getting into the top 5.

After those though, 2013 had everyone from Nichushkin, Nurse and Monahan in the top 5 depending on who you asked on what day.

2012 was a gong show. Forsberg was listed anywhere from 2nd to 5th. He went 11th.

2011 Had no consensus, you could easily find Couturier and Hamilton in the top 5.

2010 was suppose to be Fowler than Gormley in the 4th and 5th spots. They went 12th and 13th instead.

2008 after Stamkos and Doughty had a bunch of players with Luke Schenn more often than not going top 5. He went 6th.

2007 was another gong show. Forget that about four prospects could have gone number one according to who you talked to (despite what people say now). Cherepanov was a top 5 pick who dropped to 17th. Hickey came from no where to be drafted fourth. Esposito dropped heavily

Even in a "consensus" year it's not uncommon for the top 5 to not go as planned. I wouldn't be ready to call this consensus though, not with Chychrun. So really if you really really want one of them, I wouldn't be too afraid of Dubois and Tkachuck being gone, but rather the Flames not picking one of them.
