Yes Edmonton and Vancouver might be stupid, but other teams will offer them something for their spot so they can drop, get a Dman and another asset.

How often does the top 5 go exactly as planned? Recently, I would say that 2014's top 5 was pretty solid. It had the top 4 in any order, than Dal Colle. But even then some people thought Ehlers had a potential top 5 status (and those people don't seem too wrong right now) or even Ritchie as a wildcard. 2009 was also pretty set, but as a consolation it was Ekman who went in his projected 6th spot and he's easily ahead of Duchene, Kane and Schenn. I might even prefer him to Hedman. Maybe you can make a case for 2015's top 5 being set, but every once in awhile you had people making a case for Provorov as the top D getting into the top 5.
After those though, 2013 had everyone from Nichushkin, Nurse and Monahan in the top 5 depending on who you asked on what day.
2012 was a gong show. Forsberg was listed anywhere from 2nd to 5th. He went 11th.
2011 Had no consensus, you could easily find Couturier and Hamilton in the top 5.
2010 was suppose to be Fowler than Gormley in the 4th and 5th spots. They went 12th and 13th instead.
2008 after Stamkos and Doughty had a bunch of players with Luke Schenn more often than not going top 5. He went 6th.
2007 was another gong show. Forget that about four prospects could have gone number one according to who you talked to (despite what people say now). Cherepanov was a top 5 pick who dropped to 17th. Hickey came from no where to be drafted fourth. Esposito dropped heavily
Even in a "consensus" year it's not uncommon for the top 5 to not go as planned. I wouldn't be ready to call this consensus though, not with Chychrun. So really if you really really want one of them, I wouldn't be too afraid of Dubois and Tkachuck being gone, but rather the Flames not picking one of them.
