Wow, I was in before the GDL but my test didn't take me anywhere close to a road as busy as Macleod. I tested at the crowfoot registry and drove around the community of Ranchlands for maybe 15 mins, during which I had to 'parallel park' along a street with no cars, turned left onto John Laurie and right back to the registry. I was so mad I had 'wasted' my time doing the whole AMA training thing for that joke of a test. (*don't think the AMA test is actually a waste at all, just did when I was 16, I'm probably a much better driver for it)
Sounds exactly like the GDL test I did when I was 16.
Just drove around a loop in Shawnessy. Took me through a playground zone and an uncontrolled intersection and then I also did the parallel parking thing with no car behind me. I was so worried going into it cause it snowed quite a bit the day of my test but it was a total joke.
Haha, yup, just like Swarly, all I could think was 'Wow, I paid $700 for AMA Drivers Ed just so I could drive around a residential area for a 15 minute test?"
Glad I did the Drivers Ed, but it shouldn't be harder to pass than the actual test to get your license
In terms of riding the left lane, I abide by a simple rule: if the car behind me is closer than the car in front of me, I will look to get over when safe to do so. Sometimes that means the guy who wants to do 130 on Deerfoot has to slow to the 110 I'm doing while passing a car doing 100. Sometimes it means that I'm going to end up having to slow to 100 while I wait for guy doing 130 to pass me so I can pull back out and overtake another car.

I did Crowfoot registry as a year after GDL was implemented. It went through Bowness then 16th to simulate "highway driving" then went back. I was auto failed for doing 33 kmph in a school zone or playground zone (didn't brake hard/fast enough to throw the instructor out of the window prior to reaching the sign I guess). I hear the GDL tests are more lenient now.
(I lightened that lead foot a hair and got my full license second try).

So you're telling me that people AREN'T simply divided into 2 categories: Left lane strugglers, and crazy speed dooshes?
When I saw the references to Germany I immediately thought of East Germany where you could report your neighbours' suspicious activity to the Stasi. Just a little off on that one.
Of course it does. If you're going to have a dash cam and act like you're a superior driver you better not be breaking laws either or participate in a group that by my count broke 3 laws in under 3 minutes.
