The league is a joke when it comes to stuff like this. It won't just be make up calls, it will be a make up suspension.

yeah my bad...so Gary lied to make it look worse?
he sent it to another player...they are likely friends or maybe he had texted Wideman some support.
Context, another reason why those shouldn't have been made public
Gary won't show his face here for a while

Hey man - take it easy on Bettman. I mean he only took weeks to come up with his decision. Not nearly enough time to fact check what team Gregory Campbell plays on.

Enjoy that the arbitrator also mentions that the player who hit Wideman prior to this ref stuff cross checked him. Perhaps that guy should have gotten suspended for concussing a player.

No, the numbers don't, actually.
We were short handed five times in the last game Wideman played. Then four times the first game after. Then four in the next three combined. That was followed by the Eric Furlatt sh*tshow. And in the last 13 games, we've taken three or fewer minor penalties nine times.
People have basically taken those two games where Eric Furlatt made an ass out of himself and imagined that this has been the situation in every game since Wideman's hit.
The truth is, our penalty totals are up from December/January. The truth is also that our penalty totals since the hit are right in line with how many penalties we took in October. The common bond there is that the Flames were playing like crap. Teams chasing games take more penalties than teams playing well.
There is no conspiracy. Just fans with victim complexes looking in the wrong direction on who to blame.

so those two games don't count? you can chalk it up to him being an ass but considering he has no accountability I won't
Moving on there is no way Wideman as a first time offender should have gotten 20 games for intentionally injuring an official. The collision was gonna happen either way its not like he chased the guy down...20 games for extending his arms? Use your head
Third party agreed and cut it in HALF...the NHL gave him TEN games too many. More than Todd Bertuzzi
Flames fans frustrations have been validated by the arbitrator

I've read the decision (good thing it looks like "work") and it will be interesting to see what the NHL does. The arbitrator really seems to dislike the wording of the CBA, and that looks like something that the NHL may want to appeal by way of judicial review.
Reading the NHL's statement, I doubt that this incident is over. And if you think that the appeal process in the CBA was long, you're in for a muuuuch longer road should the league appeal.

Should have been reduced to zero games like all the other accidental collisions with officials. If it was Crosby that did this, I doubt he would have been suspended at all.

They don't create a case for a conspiracy, no.

If Wideman intentionally injured an official, 20 games is the minimum he should have gotten, per the rule book. This line of argument is a dead end for you. You should stick to arguing it was incidental/accidental.

Partially. Many predicted this was were we would end up. But I would note that you have been vehemently arguing that Wideman's actions were completely accidental and that he did nothing wrong. The arbitrator most certainly has not validated your position any more than he validated Bettman's.

Poe's law, man.
There's no shortage of people who have convinced themselves we are a victim of some grand officiating conspiracy. Hard to tell when people are repeating the same arguments in a thread full of outrage pointed in all directions.

If I was the Flames I would ask for compensation in the form of 2 free buyouts and then used them on Wideman and Smid in the summer (actually I would buy them out even if they count against the cap - but that's just me).

The conspiracy thing is funny, because the refs would be unintentionally helping the Flames if it were true. This team's PK is garbage, in 30th last time I checked, and thus extra penalties would cripple the team's ability to win. Therefore helping the tank.
If the Flames were in playoff contention, different story. But as it is? Bring on the conspiracy IMO.
