But the only reasons, the only reasons, that they are in the toilet bowl with Edmonton and Toronto are (1) they started the season without an acceptable goalie and with half their defence not functioning, and (2) they are finishing with their only acceptable goalie

Ortio has allowed 2 goals in three of the last four games. Whether you like him or not, those are at least acceptable results from your goalie.

Ferland needs to get back to hitting as the primary focus of his game. The rest will come if he is being effective in hitting. He struggles when he gets too fancy.

I agree with those that believe we should get a new coaching staff. I would rather not wait until we hit the skids next year to do it, and think that a proactive approach is better for us. The special teams alone is reason enough imo.

So, who do the Flames target to replace Hartley?

There's only one guy on the market that would even be and equivalent move and that's Randy Carlyle. I don't really view that as an upgrade.

The Sabres are learning a new system with a new coach, lost their starting goal for 42 games, and have the third-highest games lost to injuries so far in the NHL. Are those the only reasons they're near the bottom of the standings?

You can go ahead and moan, bitch, and whine in despair, if that's how you get your kicks. But kindly don't go lobbing insults at those of us who choose to keep leveller heads.

I have no doubt that our very methodical and smart GM would find the best choice for the team. Who that is, I'm not sure. If there is no one out there, I'm sure he has recognized that. But if there is someone Treliving believes in, I'm on board.

3 years is about the max for an average coach.

There will be some new players next season, so I think he deserves another shot at turning this around. I doubt Hartley gets canned this off season, but if the start in October 2016 is as horrible as October 2015, then he should be gone by Christmas.

Both would be good. Hitchcock's contract hasn't been renewed yet and if they're bounced in the first round again I bet they move on. That'd be a guy I'd want the Flames to go after

I'm not sure Hitchcock would be a good hire, I used to like him a lot, but he can't seem to do anything with the stacked Blues team.

That's like saying the only way to add scoring is to get some old guy that has done it before.

Surely there is a coach somewhere in the AHL or an assistant in the NHL ready for a promotion to head coach in the NHL.
