Nice to see a couple Flames prospects in the tournament. Normally I'm not really interested in the tournament unless Flames prospects are in it, and I cheer for whatever team they're on. Funnest tournament for me to watch was the one Gaudreau put on a clinic and schooled Nuge.

The good news is that this is his last WJC tournament. The bad news is that he moves up as coach for the mens national team

Is it that Per Marts guy? My brother and I call him Walmarts.

Yeah, whats the deal there? I'm not always as knowledgeable about our prospects as some people but from what I understand most Swedes are choked that they were omitted from the Swedish Junior team.
Is that true?

Great news for Hickey. This guy could end up being a steal of a pick. Just continues to impress. Hopefully he has a good tourny and just gave me another reason to tune in.

Most of the time during the World Jrs I'm cheering for Flames prospects, whatever team they're on.
I dont need to obsequiously cheer for Canada, they're going to do well and likely win with or without my support. I'll cheer for them once we're talking about medals and I'll never cheer against them, but I want the Flames prospects to do well.
So its nice that I have a vested interest in Team Canada for the first time in a while and maybe I wont tune out when they're up by a touchdown against Belarus or whomever.

What do you mean with choked?
It is true that Swedish coach always make some dumb decisions, but the talent pool in Sweden is higher these days than 5-10 years ago.

I'm all about Flames prospects. If Flames players were on team US I would hope for them to light up team Canada when they faced each other. The outcome of this tournament matters very little to me as it's an overhyped money maker for TSN.

Wow, im kinda shocked by this sentiment of cheering strictly for flames prospects. Its an amazing tournament for young kids getting to represent Canada on the biggest stage. I cheer for my country before I cheer for a prospect.
but to each his own.

Yay! Time for the yearly patriotic duty vs Flames prospect World Junior debate with opening act: TSN over hyping di$cu$$ion.
Its a hockey tournament with players who can play at a high level. Just enjoy it for what it is and how you want.

I'm just glad the Flames prospects actually are on Team Canada this year so I don't have to justify rooting against Canada to the extended family.

I cheer for Canada, root for Flames prospects and also any Hitmen that make it. And get envious when I see great performers who are going to other teams.
Hickey sure looked good the other day though.

re Hickey:
Guy Flaming @TPS_Guy
Was asked this morning by @dantencer who the last NCAA D-man to play for Canadian WJC was. It was Wisconsin's Cody Goloubef (CBJ) in 2009.

Hey, I'm a hockey fan first and want to see good play from all the countries and I'll follow Flames prospects with attention but to cheer against Canada is just wrong. If it isn't for patriotic reasons than I think some of you don't know how much Canada was screwed over by the IIHF in the past. We're owed big time.

We're not talking about the Olympics here.. Or even the WC. This is a tournament to see who has the best crop of prospects.
Especially as of late I hate having to cheer for a team led by Oiler 1st overall picks. I'd rather cheer for my teams prospects. It's tournaments like this that can raise a players stock and make them internationally respected.
Just look at Gaudreau absolutely lighting it up and tell me it didn't feel amazing even if it was for the US.

The WJC is an exciting, emotional, and fast-paced tournament which I look forward to every Christmas.
And I have absolutely no trouble rooting for Canada, AND for Flames prospects.
This silly debate every year just makes me shake my head.

I like the game times, looks like all 4 of Canada's round robin games are on at 11 AM Calgary time.
