I'm thinking it's either betting, drugs or sexual assault. Nothing else would make sense that I could think of. You don't get caught with PEDs at the border (well, you can I suppose) and nothing else stands up to the scrutiny of terminating a contract

Here's a bit of baseless speculation: what if it's PEDs?
Then he should get his money back, 'cause they clearly didn't work...

Seriously, not to speculate about what he ACTUALLY did, but try to think of a list of things he MIGHT have done that would have this result... keeping in mind that beating the hell out of your spouse ain't cutting it.

1. Performance enhancing drugs. In some significant and blatant sense, because generally I'd think he'd just get a 20-30 game suspension.
2. DISTRIBUTING performance enhancing drugs.
3. Gambling on hockey games.
4. Pedophilia...? I'm out of ideas.

That was a joke, I'm saying I actually have no idea what it could be other than something that directly goes to the integrity of the game, and outside of betting on the outcomes and taking steroids I'm at a total loss.

this has the feeling of something legitimately bad. No way they do this because of drugs, alcohol or fitness, IMO.

Maybe involved in the Stoll incident? Pure speculation just like everything else. Teammates, and I think they're buddies off the ice.

I found this article that claims they like to party, and Richards and Carter had been known for the "Dry Island" thing a few years ago:

Nope, not scanning, that one. They have to tell us! It's going to come out eventually and everyone's just going to speculate until then.

Could getting into a physical altercation with management or staff do it? (On top of random party rumors?)

Refusal to report or saying he would refuse to report if traded is the only other possibility I would imagine.

You can't terminate a contract because someone threatens to not report I highly doubt.

Fighting a guy in management doesn't result in a material breach of the contract, no. That sounds like team imposed suspension territory. Refusing to report if traded doesn't void the deal either, IMO... not the first time that's happened.

The real Mike Richards is locked up in his basement.

I'm mainly reading into this line from a previous post:

Quote:
The Kings did not say why Richards is in violation of the deal, though several sources told ESPN.com it involves an off-the-ice incident.
Looks like an single incident thing and wondering what would be serious enough to warrant it. A previous poster discussing betting might be another... this must be a very bizarre and rare situation.

@ CorsiHockeyLeague and Hackey: Fair enough. I was just wondering if those were bad enough for an immediate termination of contract.

I think Mike Richards is part of an international ponzi scheme, where he syphoned billions of dollars from a bunch of investors, blew it all on his high rolling Vegas lifestyle, and now has to pimp in order to sustain his lifestyle.

I'm not saying this is what Mike Richards did but say he bet money on the Stanley Cup is that against the rules even though he isn't playing or have anything to do with the game? Can NHL players never bet on the NHL while they are players or would it be allowed if they had nothing to do with the game?

No NHL player can bet on the NHL, as far as I know.

A quick google search reveals that Mike Richards was doing stand up and called a black guy the N-word repeatedly. Not good if true.
