Gettin rid of Hudler would be mean getting rid of a 35-45 assist player. IMO we have too many finishers and not many playmakers so losing him would hurt us in that department especially if we are looking at a player like Backes, he will bring a different set of skills to our lineup but we will definitely need someone to replace the playmaking ability of Hudler.

Yea Backes seems to be a few years to old for the direction this team is going ,but I definitely think that given Hudlers production and low (possibly even lower) cap hit he should be able to fetch a roster player and not just picks and prospects.

Probably someone in that 22-24 age range. Treliving probably didn't like what he saw physically from the top line in the Anaheim series, injuries or not they just got pushed around way to much.

Backes type of players...

Hartnell
Simmonds
Landeskog
Lucic
Foligno
Ladd
Burns
Kesler

Tough to trade for one of those guys.

Maybe an emerging Backes player.

Isn't Backes a centre? And a top two-way one at that? I think Kesler or Koivu are better comparables.

EDIT: Oops, didn't see Crybaby on your list at first Tinordi.

22nd Overall and Bowey is more ideal.

If the Flames move on from Hudler to get younger or get bigger I wonder if they could sign MSL for a one year $5-$7M to fill the void for a year? He could be another solid mentor for Johnny and likely score the 40-60pts that Hudler likely scores next year? On a one year deal it could be worth the risk?

Not sure if he would come back here but sounds like he is done in NY

Not even sure i want Tom Wilson for the cost to acquire. Made the team early but I really doubt he has the offensive upside to be a top 6 guy. Think Devante Smith-Pelly from years ago.

Their values decrease as they get into early to mid 20s and the offense doesnt come along.

wonder if there is something capable of Hudler for Lucic possible ....

As far as det goes, think you have a better possibility of doing the 1st + mantha for Wideman than for Hudler

Was Lucic playing hurt last year? He looked like a shadow of the player he once was.

In 2013-14 he played with Krejci and Iginla for the entire season. In 2014-15 his linemates were constantly changing because Krejci spent most of the year on IR. He's not good enough to create that kind of offense on his own. He needs his playmaking centre.

Came into the season with a wrist injury I think.

Lots of hockey played in the last several years for the Bruins. Same with the Kings. It has to add up after awhile. You finish playing at the end of May/mid June and basically have 2.5 Months to recoup and retrain before training camp starts.

I would not be suprised to see him rebound. As well as a bunch of the Kings players.

That is kind of what makes this Chicago run remarkable with guys like Keith and Toews playing a tonne of hockey in the last 6 years (including two olympics).

Ideal for us, sure. But Hudler is 31 with one more year on his deal. That would be a pretty bad deal for the Caps.

Someone mentioned 15th to BUF for 21st & 31st

How about that, then flip the 21st with Backlund and another prospect (Granlund, Wotherspoon?) to Colorado for Ryan O'Reilly.

Flames still pick 31st, 45th, 51st, 52nd, 76th and 83rd through 3 rounds, and upgrade our #2 center slot by a fair bit with O'Reilly.

Gaudreau (22) - Monahan (21) -
Bennett (19) - O'Reilly - (24) -

O'Reilly and Bennett are interchangeable.

There's a core of four to build the forwards around for a decade plus. (Obviously need to get O'Reilly extended, the sooner the better)

Tom Wilson is a bit overrated here IMO.

Good player but he's basically a Ferland.

Well, Treliving did say the offer had to blow his mind. And it would makes sense for Hudler to go on a team like the Capitals to rack up the points so he can get paid in the 2016 offseason.

I don't mind keeping him either, I love what he brings to this team.
