#1 priority over the summer better be fixing this defense. That does not look like a playoff worthy defense.
3 of the 6 I'd consider very good d-men, Engelland has been good down the stretch, and you could say the same for Shlemko. Potter, I'd agree with you, but the other 5 I wouldn't go as far as saying not playoff worthy.

You can make your own destiny in the playoffs. Some would argue the 2004 defence didn't look playoff worthy either. Other teams may have more depth on their defence, but they also don't have 3 players like Brodie, Russell and Wideman.
I think Engelland has been a bit of an unsung hero too, and what better platform to do that than in the playoffs.

And right now I wouldn't trade our defense for the Canucks defense.
Bieksa, Sibsa and Hamhuis have looked terrible this year. Weber is as soft as it gets.
Tanev and Edler are good, but Edler isn't that great anymore.

Who cares about what the D looks like today it got us into the playoffs. Stop bitching about the roster, and enjoy the moment we are in the playoffs about to cause some serious damage.

#Flames coach Hartley wouldn't divulge if Raymond/Bennett or Byron are in but Raymond is in the ice with Shore and Wotherspoon.

Also, Gio isn't done for these playoffs yet.
Oh I'm not giving up hope or anything like that but just looking at those names... it's not confidence inspiring.
But then again building the best defense the Flames have had since the glory days (J-bo, Dion and Regher) is what led to the collapse of the last core so...

Brodie/Russell/Wideman together > J-Bo/Dion/Reg together.
And add Gio in versus any other defenceman from the earlier period (Warrener/Sarich/etc) and it's no contest.
I would also suggest that Brodie/Russell/Wideman > Leopold/Reg/Ference et al from 2004.
