Top 5 this year would be a great goal for him.

And it really keys in on that budding rivalry with Nishikori. They are battling for that top five spot, which Nishikori is holding at the moment.

To go along with that:

Bouchard’s Fed Cup participation now a matter of convenience
http://www.sportsnet.ca/tennis/bouch...f-convenience/

Harsh comments? Fair?

It also sounds like she's hired Sam Sumyk as her new coach.

It's a new thing for Canadians. Fed Cup and Davis Cup really aren't important in the grande scheme of things in tennis. The top players miss these all the time.

Not only are the team competitions really not that big, but the scheduling set up for them is absurdly bad. I mean had Genie made the Aussie final, she'd be going from Australia to Quebec City to play within a week. These team competitions could actually matter a lot more if they could get their scheduling to not be so horrible.

Who's coaching Genie?

Sam Sumyk.

Some schmuck?

Sam Sumyk.

That's what I'm asking - what's his name?

Sam Sumyk.

Andy Murray defeats Vasek Pospisil in straight sets (6-3 7-5) in Rotterdam earlier today. Vasek played well, but just couldn't win the key points of the match. I think if he wants to move up the singles ranks that he needs to give up doubles, it's just too much wear-and-tear on his body (and it's not as if he hasn't contended with numerous injuries already).

Genie on her way to another one and done at a tournament against a qualifier. Seems she simply cannot motivate herself outside the majors. I don't see how she stays in the top 15 by the end of the year unless she plays a lot of tournaments just to grab points.

Nice win for Milos and it looks like a semi-final clash with Wawrinka if everything holds to form (Muller is playing well though and could pull an upset on Stan).

Speaking of rankings points and Kei vs. Milos for that 5th spot, it is interesting that Raonic chose the 500 level event while Nishikori is in Memphis at a 250 level tournament. Other than perhaps Isner in the semi-final, Nishikori has no opposition whatsoever.

On the ATP tour that's called Vulturing. Play as many 250s as possible until you win 6 of them. 6 wins = 1500 points
Then play 500s and if you make a final, a 300 will replace one of those 250s

A player is allowed to count 6 of the best 500/250 tournaments.

At the moment in this area, Milos has 1265, Kei has 1680.

Ferrer has done that for years.

In contrast, Milos currently only has 195/500 points in that area.
I believe the correct technical term is "Wozniacki-ing".

also Nishikori is defending his Memphis title while Milos is making points in Rotterdam. If Milos can win that's +500 points.

Milos into the semis in Rotterdam after a tough three set win over Stakhovsky. Very entertaining match with both players playing aggressively (no hesitation coming to the net and some excellent volleys from both players).

Milos plays Wawrinka in the 2nd semi-final, the 1st semi is Gilles Simon versus Tomas Berdych.
