A lot of Calgarians are overly sensitive to portrayals of the 'Cowboy-image' of the city. They almost wish as Calgary grows for it to die a quick and painful death because it's perceived to get in the way of showing the world how sophisticated we think we are now.
Yeah, I think it comes from a lot of transplanted easterners or young people who all they've heard is the new country but

yeah I agree with this too but there is a lot of old country that I like, even the country rock that use to get played in the bars around Calgary in the 70s. When rock came out in the 50s, country music was one of it's influences.
Does anyone know why SN didn't bother broadcasting the American national anthem last night? That seemed odd to me. I don't recall ever seeing a game televised where the broadcaster only aired one of the two anthems.
Seems as if those who were live enjoy it or are willing to work with it vs those who listened on the radio or watched on tv.
I was there last night and quite enjoyed it. It was unique and sounded passionate IMO.
Ill be interested to see if it sounds much different on the radio/tv.

The video is available a few posts back.

I saw that and assumed it was "flames tv" outside of SN but after watching it, I personally feel that it sounds quite a bit different live. It might be a physiological thing as the video focuses in on the singer giving people more of a country image than they want.

That was the SN broadcast. SN needs to find some better sound engineers or do something else to improve because the quality before the puck drop was brutal (it was better once the game started.) In a pre-game interview with Roger Millions on the ice the sound kept cutting in and out. It was horrible.
I didn't pay a lot of attention to it but he sang it straight which is a huge plus. I'd give him some time before a lot of heavy criticism rains down on him. It's probably not that easy, even for a pro. Look what happened to Arden and she's a pro.
To be fair to Arden, she didn't have any monitors... very hard to sing if you can't hear your own voice, many great singers when they don't have stage monitors can have really bad nights.
For those that say George sings it straight, sorry you can hear the country 100% in his voice. very disappointing, can't wait till he's gone. I guess you can't take the man out of the country after all
saying that, Flames obviously wanted a country singer so it is what it is, but his voice is country...

I liked George's national anthems. Powerful voice. Couldn't care less if he has a country image or not.
I was at the Tampa game and I thought he was horrible, in fact the thing I came away with was how his voice wasn't powerful at all, whenever the song called for a strong voice he would peter out, and he couldn't hold the note either. I don't really care much it's just the anthems but they probably should have got someone who can actually sing an anthem.

Those same people tend to bitch about a "lack of culture" in the city. What they really mean is that they don't like the culture.
I'm sure there are a few people in Nashville who dislike their country image as well, but the majority in both cities certainly don't care.
