A shot against the grain with Seabrook blocking you slightly and skating in the opposite direction of the pucks path. Pretty hard to stop that especially on the fly.

wow im honestly astonished people are saying the flames controlled anything in this game without green text

flames looked putrid tonight. scared of the puck, giving it away the minute they gained possession, dump + chase without chasing and giving the puck up on every single dumpin, defensive collapses all over the place. was really ugly if not for hiller being a super hero

biggest takeway is just how awful wideman has been. anyone remember the wideman of this time last year? guy was a total stud. now it looks like he has cement shoes instead of skates. good to see him finally use that shot hes essentially getting paid 5.25 mil for

We played on the PK way too much tonight and it set us on our heals for good chunks of time. We did have a push back after the 1-1 goal though and I'd argue we won the OT as well.

I agree, i should have said 7 penalties vs a team like chicago is also a great example of how bad this game was

i really honestly do not see any positives from this game except for hiller, gio+brodie and byron busting his tail off. the fact that only one shift in the entire game stood out as the flames playing good(aside from when they were hemmed in their own zone for a minute straight to break out and have a scoring chance a few times) is a really bad sign to me

yeah yeah, 2nd game in as many nights AND it went to OT, but man. rough game to watch

While I don't disagree, the elite teams find ways to win even when they have an off night. Case in point Chicago beating us two seasons ago when Emery had the game of his life, and the Flames had arguably their best game of the season.

I am definitely NOT saying the Flames are even close to an elite team let alone a good one at this point, but there are definitely positives to take from tonight. The PK was awesome, goaltending was incredible and the effort was there on the second night of a back to back.

Anyone watch the panel at the 1st intermission of the Oilers latest debacle?

Neil Smith: "The Calgary Flames don't have the upside that the Oilers do ..."

Surprisingly Debrusk was in our corner.

I'm amazed how many people are being jobbed by Iggy's post, despite the fact that it's been called out as a jab post MULTIPLE times in this thread lol.

I don't understand how these guys continue to spew that garbage. When will they wake up and just realize the Oilers are no good? Like they are a disgrace! I don't even know where to begin.

Reiterate what many others are saying that Backlund had a heck of a game. He was player of the game for me even without the OT goal. The really nice thing to see is that he competed and bested opponents with his hockey IQ tonight. Chicago is stacked with a collection of high IQ, high skill players and Backlund beat them at their game. Multiple times tonight he predicted and got into the passing lanes used by Hossa / Kane to break up their offensive plays. Not only that, he was very calm on the puck in the defensive zone, and had at least 3 occasions where he notably relieved the pressure in our zone by smartly and deftly controlling the puck and skating / passing out of pressure. Just a great game.

As for the lopsided shots on goal and tilted possession during the game: This is how wins against the Blackhawks (and other elite teams) are going to look! The Chicago Blackhawks are one of the top 5 teams in the NHL and we're arguably bottom 5. It's a bend-and-try-not-to-break type of game where everyone puts in a shift. This is how we can compete against the elite, and we saw what happens when we don't compete (see St. Louis game). The nice thing is that this type of effort, if maintained, won't look as lopsided against teams 10-20 in the standings.

Go Flames.

Now to watch Edmonton lose...

Sweet revenge for Emery's highway robbery a couple years back.

Besides the obvious props to Hiller, Backlund deserves some love too. Scores the game winner and seems to have picked up where he left off last year as the Flames best penalty killer.

Flames go down 3 goals quickly in the first period, Joseph comes in and shuts the door, then Sarich wallpapers Marleau and the team makes an epic comeback
Vernon and Lemelin.

That was the last true tandem.
