To be fair, a few of them went too far too long. It's not anyone's fault certain areas are catching up right now.

Hopefully, once a certain re-classifcation and understanding of what's ok and what isn't, we'll be back to a state of normal again.

I hope so.

No it's sexist. We don't talk about fat men with bruises on their thighs. It's insulting a woman or group of women based on their perceived physical shortcomings. Personally I don't actually care I just think it's going to be in interesting to watch this unfold, determining what's acceptable and what's not. Although I have to say the justification people use for having half naked people in their avatars crack me up the most. Are these pictures really necessary or 'all inclusive'?

I don't know. Aren't we pretty equal-opportunity offenders when it comes to women and men from Edmonton? We don't mock them on the basis of being women. We mock them on the basis of being from Edmonton. Although maybe I haven't caught the more flagrant comments.

No, "we" talk about their sweatpants and greasy mullets. The comments about the men of Edmonton are at least as negative as the comments about the women of Edmonton and are just as much based on their physical appearance.

I'd just like to say as a man that I had a problem with the thread.

Someone mentioned it earlier, a lot of subtext here that it was 'women whining and complaining' and getting their way over the majority of men.

Well, I'm a man and I didn't like the thread either.

Me too. You are right, it'll probably be weird for a while, and messy, but it doesn't mean it's not worth doing. I think the female members were right in bringing up these issues. Figuring out the new 'lines' is going to be a process. And that's not just for sexism, but for speech in general.

I do have faith in the mods and the forum users in general though that it won't become too overblown. It's about respect, for everyone. We all just need to try and think a little more before posting.

Really? Are there not women who can play a physical brand of hockey? I would think the reason there aren't women in the NHL has more to do with their size than their physicality or intensity. Are there not men's leagues all over Europe that play hockey where there's much less fighting and hitting?

LOL thanks for that. I actually did laugh out loud. You realize there are genetic differenced between the male and female species don't you? Maybe I missed the point in time where the human race became asexual? It's like some of you people are in denial that men and women are not the same.

There's also the point that inclusiveness stops at Red Deer going north and somewhere around Cranbrook going west. Should CP kowtow to the slavering peasants of Edmonton or the shrieking rabble of Vancouver? Never!

PS: Except for oilers_fan. That guy's ok, if misguided due to being brought up in a toxic environment of glory days syndrome.

That's really too bad. For you, and for everyone that doesn't come from the same place of privilege that you do.

Much like 4chan's response to Emma Watson's recent UN speech, the reaction only goes to further the original point.

Making fun of women for being fat is the same as making fun of a man with no fashion sense? Personally I'm not offended but you've got to think someone is. What if a woman from Edmonton wanted to come here and read some of that stuff? Doesn't seem very inclusive to me.

I'm not from a place of privilege. I'm from a place of science. You people not take biology?

Perhaps we should now report everything and anything that we the people now find offensive on CP.
Click the button and let the mods moderate.

Avatars, sigs, posts etc.

Hopefully with will lead to less bitching and whining in the threads.

No men and women are equal in every way. Anything a man can do, a woman can. I kindly remind the women I work with of this when they ask my help to do some heavy lifting.

You didn't understand my point (and you've been editing your responses after my replies).

I'm not talking about biology. Of course men and women are different. What's your point? That it's not demeaning to call someone a girl in a derogatory way because on average, women aren't as strong as men? If that's your argument, I'm not sure what to say, other than to offer condolences to any women in your life.

What's your point here exactly? No one is saying men and women are equal physically. We're saying that one shouldn't be treated as inferior to the other.

If you really meant the things you said, you would never have had that avatar in the first place, let alone state that you will wait to be TOLD to take it down.

I hold your opinions and actions in the same place as the women who speak out against gender bias, sexism, misogyny, etc, etc....and then run to the theater to see Magic Mike and post about it on fB.

Having said all that, I don't care one way or another if the Powers That Be decide to be 'more inclusive' and tear down the YLYL thread. I don't come here for that.
