Couple months ago I was hoping the Flames will improve their team toughness. Not necessarily getting more pure fighters but people who can play 8-12 minutes a game. I watched Bollig and Engelland play on TV and thought they would be good players to add. Some skills and decent middleweight protectors. The salary is arguable but I don't have problem adding gritty players like these two. We did have a soft team after MacGrattan, Westgarth and SOB.

Don't worry about the dollar figures; none of this is going to hamstring us when it counts, a couple three year overpayments get you some solid vets to help on a rebuilding team. THey need SOME incentive to choose us.
Exactly. No one is going to play for us right now unless we overpay. The salary cap is $69 million. Guys are going to be get more money no matter what. The term is fine because he'll be off the book when we really need the cap space.
It's 2.9 with a salary cap of 69 million. The team isn't close to the cap and doesn't look to be there anytime soon.
How is it a mistake?
It's absolutely a mistake, but that doesn't mean it's a fatal one. If cap floor is such a problem I'd rather we overpay some of our homegrown RFA's a little bit
Yeah its a high salary but that means little in the grand scheme of things. 3x3 does not handcuff the club at all. I do think though that this narrows the door for taking on a bad cntract plus an asset from another team, going forward this contract will not be an issue.

To be fair, he did have the balls to drop gloves with McGrattan.
He and Bollig were two of the ten players to "fight" McGrattan last year. I'm thinking if you want to be a Flame all you need to is pick a fight with #16.

What does it stop the Flames from doing and/or hurt the team?
