The whole explanation of Hartley's actions from Burke was completely justified and only strengthened Hartley's decision.

Torts and the Canucks fanbase looking like total jackasses right now.

Burke seems fully committed to the system the Flames want in their managers.
Sure, maybe puppet is the wrong word, but how much autonomy will the new GM have?

Seems like every big idea will have to go through Burke? So who is really the GM?

What if the new GM wants to fire Hartley by November next season? Does he need buy in from Burke?

I don't think this structure is going to work. I have been against it from Day 1. Why can't we just have Burke be the GM, and have him hire 1-2 AGM's to do the daily work like he had in Toronto.

Let's call it what it really is.

Every big idea has to go through someone. No one just used a teams resources and does what they want without actually presenting the idea and getting authorization. I works like that for many companies there is a chain of command, the gm will be given free reign, but I'm sure if he's trading our 1st he will have to discuss the deal with Burke.

I was apprehensive about Burke coming here, but I can honestly say, I love this guy. We're in good hands

So, there really is, if you are filling in your boxes on how we scout, which is a player has got a fill a box for us top 6 or bottom 6 whatever. Theres guys that fill the box in every forward group."

Well I'm glad no one took me up on that bet. I could have sworn I heard size and grit after Draisatl's name - but it was before.

Im not sure I like the comments about Ortio - hes an RFA isnt he? So why would he want to stay in the AHL now that he's had a good taste of the pros?

He probably doesn't want to stay in the AHL but he's only 22. Burke wants to see him get all the playing time available to him next season. It's a comment about development, I'm sure Ortio gets that.

Of course he does, what job don't you require buy in from your boss on any major decisions? Your thoughts are correct. Any team going to the President if hockey Ops structure is doing exactly what you said.

It's added another layer hierarchy that didn't exist before. Previously, GM was the highest ranking hockey position in an organization, now it's not for clubs like Calgary. And any GM who takes this job knows that. It's changed what being a GM means in a club with this structure, and you are right to suggest that it will impact who wants the job. Any GM who wants to be top hockey dog in a market will either only take a President position like Burkes, or a GM job where President of Hockey Ops doesn't exist.

Our new GM is going to have less control than any previous GM because Burke is his hockey boss. But the job will also be more impacting than previous Ass. GM jobs. No one, except some fans seem confused by this except some fans. It's not some big trick Burke and the Flames are trying to pull on our Fan base or some unsuspecting GM candidate, I'm sure no one is confused as to why Burke came around on the position......because it makes him the boss and he doesn't have to do any of the day to day dirty work.

If Ortio doesn't want to play in the ahl then its up to him to come to camp and steal the nhl job from Ramo.

He's an RFA, so he doesn't have a lot of choice in the matter. No one is going to give him an offer sheet and promise him an NHL starter's job.

His only other option is to leave North America and hope to have a Ramo-style couple of years in the KHL and come back to the NHL under high demand like Ramo did.

Either way, he's not playing in the NHL next year, but at least with a two-way NHL contract, there's a chance for him to get some NHL playing time, and a transition plan into the NHL.

Going back to Europe comes with no promises of an NHL future.

I'd like to hear a bit of the rebuttal from Lotus Land regarding Burke's comments about Hartley and Torts. Anyone with info on that? Maybe they're lying down like dogs ala the Oilers after their dreadful second half. Haha.

Don't mind that they want Ortio to play full time in the AHL next year. A little concerned that it could be MacDonald backing up Ramo. Hoping they get a better back up who could push Ramo more.

Just watched it... and Burke nailed it.

I absolutely love the guy representing the Flames right now. Normally he goes off the handle on at least one or two comments, but this entire interview was completely nailed. Every single question was 110% exactly what I wanted to hear, and none of it felt fluff.

Man, I'm excited. Presidents getting involved in the Vancouver hatred? I couldn't be any damn happier.

Oh, and listening to Burke talk about Hartley: barring a fallout, this is our coach for years to come. Hartley has impressed Burke as a professional and a person. That is not easy to do and Burke keeps people around he respects. He respects he hell out of Hartley.
