That station is unlistenable at this point. Hope those cost savings were worth it.

Tuned in yesterday and it was going good for a bit then they started talking about Wrestle Mania? Are you kidding me???!!! They consider that a sport? I thought I was 12 again when I heard the Undertaker music, then I promptly turned it off.

I want to be clear that I'm all for them talking about other sports, but they weren't doing that. Two hosts having a conversation with each other about other sports that they like and like listing them off, but never actually talking about them is horrible radio.

I didn't know they did talk about other sports. You call yourself a "sports" station yet the only sport you talk about is hockey.
Look I get we're in a hockey market and our sport is hockey but would it kill these guys to change the topic once in a while? I think the main reason why they don't talk about other sports is because their so called on air talent is incapable of having a conversation about something other than hockey.
The only time they do talk about another sport is when they're making fun of it. Like yesterday morning, they were talking about Shabazz Napier and the National Championship game and making fun of the whole thing. They do this with other sports as well. Even when the NFL season is going on, the only time they discuss that is when LaCanfora is on talking about it.
You do realize that it's ok as Canadians to like another sport rather than hockey? It's like if you talk to a guy who says he likes the NBA or MLB or watches College Football he gets looked at like he has 3 heads. But hey, if you're just a hockey fan that's completely fine. But to me, I'm a sports fan and I want to hear intelligent discussion on all sports.
Yes I know radio is about ratings and they need to discuss topics that most people want to hear. I know I'm in the minority as I'm a "sports" fan rather than just a hockey fan but reading through this thread, I can tell it's not just me who can't stand listening to this station anymore.
Now I'm not a frequent listener, as a matter a fact, the only time I do listen is when my alarm goes off in the morning and I'm getting ready for work. I used to listen a lot more a couple years ago but just got tired of the non stop hockey talk. But from what others are saying, this station has gone downhill fast and needs a major overhaul.
I know Mike Richards left and the station was handcuffed at the time, but they really haven't replaced that talent. Even when Rob Kerr left, who did they replace him with? Bryn Griffiths. Come on! That reeks of cheapness but not surprising since it's Rogers. Just look at the Flames broadcasts and how cheap the overall production quality is.
I know a lot of people were fed up with Richards and his schtick was getting old but at least the guy was knowledgeable in a lot of sports and can have an intelligent discussion with somebody about many different topics. Name me someone from that station who can do that now? Maybe Pat?
The only guy I like on that station besides the obvious Peter Maher, is Steinberg. You can tell he works hard at his job and he is the one guy that can talk about other sports besides hockey. He's still young and is only going to continue to get better. The station is lucky to have him.
Also to the people wanting to get rid of Rome, who do you want to replace that time slot with? More hockey talk? Pick up the Fan 590 so we can hear more about the Leafs?
I know you either love Rome or hate him but to me it's a nice break in the morning/afternoon to hear other sports being discussed and listening to great interviews from top athletes from around the sports world.
Like I said, I know I'm in the minority. The station is not trying to appease people like me. That's why I listen to Satellite radio and podcasts. However, reading through this thread, a lot of people seem to be upset about the content and on air talent that this station is giving out. I don't have any ideas on what to do to fix it but it's a shame for a growing city like Calgary to have a mediocre sports station like this.
Maybe bringing in TSN radio or another competitor would help raise the quality of the station.

You missed what they were referring to which was there was a perception Pat had no knowledge about Baseball... (Tweet etc.).
End of the Segment was talking about where were you.... when the Jays won.
Pat comment he use to handle Baseball games in Calgary for a couple years etc.

This has been talked about for many years by Fan960..... when they carry segments about other sports....
Radio station basically gets "heat" from the Fans.
Local audience wants Hockey... more Hockey.
There just is not allot of interest in NBA or College Football within Calgary.

And I doubt Scott Ferrall even smokes, I think his voice was made up ala Wolfman Jack.

Did you ever listen to Farrell on Howard 101? His show was so awesome and always had NHL player interviews. Biz Nasty was a good guest....and always uncensored. Ferrall on terrestrial is sooooo watered down.
He was the Thrashers pbp guy until he got fired for doing an interview here in Calgary and said some unpleasant stuff about the team on the radio here....and a Thrasher's scout was driving somewhere in Saskatchewan or somewhere listening to the interview and tattled. Shortly after...fired!
Apparently, Scottie was no stranger to Cowboys when he was here. He really is good for the NHL in the States.

Nothing wrong with a little bit of wrestling talk! I'm sure there are as many or more fans of wrestling around here than basketball, golf, even baseball. Regardless if it's "fake" or not, it's still something of interest to a lot of people around here. This is Calgary after all. Home of the Hart Family. So wrestling will always have a place here.
They even show poker on sports channels! Do you consider that a sport?
I do agree things seem a little lackluster since Leslie and Walker left. I don't mind Humphries but it's definitely not the same on The Big Show. Bryn was great, Leslie was good. I do enjoy Pinder on the morning show though.
Hopefully soon they'll find someone full time to join Pat in the afternoon.

I challenge anyone to listen to play the Humphries drinking game.
Every time he uses the phrase "as well"...take a shot of your favorite liquor. I guarentee you wont make it the whole 4 hours.
The guy is quite simply not ready for prime radio time....unlistenable.

I love some of the rants on here. Agree with 90% of IceMan xMVPx. I'm not exactly sure how they are dealing with personnel at Rogers. Sometimes personalities just work well together, and sometimes two professional sportcasters can be like oil and water. It's like they are afraid to make a change or audition talent. Guys just show up, and play out a six or one year contract, compatibility be damned. Maybe a simple switch of Pinder and Leslie would generate gold. We would never know.
Personally I wouldn't mind some more MLB talk to shake things up a little. Rogers does own the Blue Jays, do they not? They should be able to line up some great interviews.
As for Rome, I stopped listening a long time ago. Too much repetition, and juvenile attempts at humour. Too bad, because his interviewing skills are excellent. I would like to hear Jay Mohr's show, but I'm not sure if that's a rights issue.
The hockey talk segments would be more engaging if they were more condensed for content, which means building a listening base in the other sports. Even a tangent like WWE at least has the benefit of eliminating filler on the hockey side, and mixing it up. Plus, I would absolutely listen to an best of Ultimate Warrior retrospective.

He truly is.
I simply can't stand listening to a "professional" speaker, let alone anyone for that matter, use the phrase "and stuff/things like that" to fill in the end of a sentence. He does it all afternoon. Drives me insane. Surely that's got to be something that's taught to broadcasting students, no? I actually think he's improving, but he's got a looong way to go. The show from 12-2 sadly reminds me of driving late at night in the middle of nowhere, with only AM radio.
Poor Pat. I think he's acceptable, but he keeps getting these not ready for prime time players thrown at him. It brings him down a notch, at really no fault of his own. I think what he really needs is to be the support guy to someone else. At this point though, he's the only thing holding that whole afternoon together.

Loubardias is great. I wish we could get him full time. Kerr is great too. In fact that his is true niche, play by play certainly is not.

Hockey Central at noon and the afternoon is gawd awful. they could hire almost any recent grad from the SAIT program that would do better than Humpries or Nault.

I've said it before but they should give Jason Deforest a shot in the afternoon with Pat. Jay is pretty good on the weekends.

I'm considering getting XM radio to listen to NHL radio so I don't have to listen to the Fan in the afternoons.

I've just stopped regardless. There's nothing that the Fan can provide that I haven't known about, possibly for hours, as a result of sites like this and HF.
Add that to the lack of having to hear a host talk in circles for hours to fill airtime because they won't hire talent, and actively fire good ones they manage to find, makes it an easy decision.

I would love to see Rob Kerr come back to afternoons and slide Pat back to the early slot.
Kerr will eventually take over Maher, he is great on the radio, TV not so much

Just out of curiosity, why do you go to HF?
It's like the youtube comments section of message boards. I've tried giving it a chance a few times, but it's the same thing every time I go there;
A big **** measuring contest amongst fans. Seriously, almost every thread in the main forum is fans subtly bragging about something to do with their team, and then everyone else downplaying it.
And the moderation is horrid. Like how do they allow some of the most juvenile, easily worked up posters to be mods, who then ban people based on anger and pettiness or because they feel like it?
Think of who we have here; All long term, respected posters as mods, who moderate without bias or emotion, just based on whether someone breaks the clearly posted rules.
I don't know, maybe I'm missing something, but I've just always found it to be useless. I mean, I could see the "you get perspective of others teams fans and not just Flames fans" angle, but that doesn't matter when it's a bunch of children slinging mud.
You get more scathing criticism of the Flames from lots of Flames fans on CP than from opposing fans on HF anyways.
