Any sport....I don't know....table tennis for instance. If I see a Canadian on one end and an American at the other I just became a table-tennis fan for however long that match lasts and I am cheering like mad-hell for the Canadian. Once it's over, I'm back to not giving much a damn about table tennis.

A Canadian publically declares he's not cheering for Canada because of the team they assembled, but will cheer for team Sweden because they added one second line center he likes.

That's probably why. The Olympics are solely about national pride, so if you aren't cheering for your country, then you're doing it wrong.
