If you are married, you would understand that a strong opinion from the wife on the matter is a difficult thing to ignore when it came time to making a decision on whether or not to re-sign.
Read my post again. I said location was a factor for players generally and I didn't assume Edmonton is a good location for Scrivens even though he grew up nearby. So whether I am married or not has no relevance whatsoever.

But you said he would be stupid not to stay if Edmonton was throwing opportunity at him. The problem is, if you aren't married, then you don't FULLY understand the factor it plays into consideration. If his wife dislikes Edmonton (which is likely, considering her distaste for the climate in Toronto or New York) then he won't be staying.

Haha you're right, the standard Oiler contract would probably be enough to keep the wife happy.

Default LA trades Ben Scrivens to Edmonton for 3rd round pick

“@scrivens_30: 1/4 Hey @AVPreports, classy move writing a slam story by cherry-picking tweets my wife sent to make it seem like she doesn't like Edmonton."

“@scrivens_30: 2/4 @AVPreports You're gutless. And to those of you who commented on the article or tweeted at her about how she's lazy (even though she's not in Edmonton now because she has a fulltime job in LA she can't just up and leave) or that she married rich (even though we got married while I was playing in the AHL) or that she's dumb (she's an Ivy League and graduate school grad), just know I'm embarrassed. I am to say that you are an Edmontonian. Way to make my family feel welcome.”

I'm trying to find the article.

Well in fairness it wasn't the Oilers, it was a writer from Toronto, and then picked up by some Edmonton blogging scrubs I believe. But yeah, it's weird up there.

Don't think it is sensitive at all. Scrivens response is justified.

Reporters and fans should not be bringing your family into the equation. Especially since they are digging up old tweets, it is not like Scrivens wife went and posted how terrible Edmonton is once she heard about the trade.

That fan base has a history of blaming their short comings on the spouses of a player (Gretzky, Pronger, Salo, now Scrivens).

Scrivens gaa will go up rapidly now that he has a tin D in front of him and not the rock solid D the Kings have. A goalie can only do so much with that mess.

I think it was more because it started a chain reaction which led to his wife being targeted by Oilers fans on twitter.

I respect Scrivens for standing up for himself in that situation.

It would absolutely be stupid for him to give up an opportunity in Edmonton if they were throwing it at him. As a couple.....they would be stupid to come to a unified decision to turn down a great opportunity in Edmonton. As a couple, their meal ticket is Scriven's hockey career. Hockey careers have short windows, and starting NHL goalie jobs don't grow on trees for guys like Scriven's. If as a COUPLE, they can't suck it up and move to Edmonton for 5 or 6 years of what will hopefully be a long fruitfull life for both them because of his career, then they are morons. Plus, they can go live wherever the frig they want in the offseason during that time.

So even if you understand the marriage / couple dynamic, the both of them would be idiots to throw away that opportunity because she doesn't like Edmonton.

I think we're going to be seeing mroe of this in the coming future and the Hall/Eberle/RNH probably arent far off themselves:

Take the money and then demand a trade in a year or two citing broken promises of improvement.

So what we're seeing here is that goaltending wasn't the problem? No way. You got to be kidding me. I was sure that was it and it wasn't an entire line up full of teenagers and floaters who don't know what defense is. That couldn't be it, could it?
