“I think they’re charging the fans to leave the building,” said Hartley. “If that one wasn’t exciting for them, it sure was for me. Hey, we made it interesting, we made it tough on us, but at the end we found a way to win. A BIG two points.”

Monahan....

“Whenever we do shootouts in practice, usually his percentage is not very good,” admitted Hartley. “That’s why we were going to others. But at one point, we said we’re going to give him a shot. And as usual, johnny on the spot, gave us the winning goal.”

Monahan, per usual, didn’t seem overwhelmed by the occasion.

“I was . . . OK,” he replied, asked about prior shootout experiences. “My first year in junior I was all right. Last year I wasn’t too good. So I was kinda nervous there. But I think I felt good once I got on the ice.

“I kinda had a plan. It’s something I usually do in practice and fortunately enough it worked.”

Hartley was impressed by the way Berra reacted to Little's tying goal.

''He's a very proud young man,'' Hartley said. ''And despite the fact that he gave up the equalizing goal late in the game, he never lost his focus.

''What to say about his performance? I rarely saw a goalie give four goals and play that well.''

A lot of snow and a highway shutdown sunday kept me from this game. I wish I was there as the last Flames game in 1996 and gave the whole arena the finger(as seen on cbc)

Would have loved to do it again with louder whinier jets fans. But at least my buddy got to take his 11 year old son(who is a flames fan poor kid) to his first nhl game in my spot.

No defence by either team in this one. McGratton should have shot before Russel and Cammy. Both goalies played well

However I would have been embarrassed at end of second with Butler and Smid both getting dragged around at same time.

It's really hard to believe he just turned 19.

He's now taken 48 more faceoffs than anyone else on the Flames.

He's also 38 faceoffs ahead of any other rookie in the league.

His FO% started off poor, but has been improving.

I think Hartley really likes Berra. I remember him comment on how the team needs a goalie that gives the team a chance to win, and it seems like he believes that Berra is doing just that.

I know it's been on previous pages but I just can't help but get an ear to ear grin every time I see Monahan score, shootout included. A big smile and one little, hardly noticeable fist pump and some high fives for his teammates. This kid just oozes class and leadership.
