Sven is not a whipping boy; he is a young player that is still learning and is going to sit every now and then.
This place is such going to flip when Monahan gets sat (which will happen at some point).

I don't mind him sitting as a rookie. I do mind that he's the only one that is consistently criticized by management in public.

Did you ever stop to consider that he's really the only one worth criticizing? You think anyone really gives a flying #### about the plethora of expendable parts that make up this team? Baertschi has the chance to be a really special player. Name me another current roster player not named Monahan that also has the ceiling Baertschi does. Of COURSE he's going to be held to a different standard.

It's a personal agenda.
Hartley has a personal hatred against Sven, period.
When you have a personal hatred against somebody, this certain somebody can do no right.
Hartley, get lost, out of Calgary along with that stupid Feaster ASAP.

I have to agree. It's not Sven's poor that got him in the doghouse. Hartley and Feaster were out drinking and both agreed it would show the city of Calgary who was boss to bench a young Swiss player.
They are both anti-Swishe-ites

Remember Kadri? He wasn't living up to his potential, he was sent down, he was benched, he was scratched, he was in the doghouse for lack of overall play... Now look at him. 44 points in 48 games last year, 17 points in 24 games so far this year.
It's going to take time, another season maybe until he picks up the pace and starts to improve.
You guys seriously need some patience

I think Sven should be available just like every other player other than Monahan. That being said, it would have to be an AMAZING deal to get him off the team. I'm talking a top 5 pick this year + or an established player who's doing really well.
Sven needs time, he's shown tallent and should be given more than a year to adapt. I think we need to give him a few years and then see what happenes, if he gets to the point Backlund is right now, then I'd be on board with a more realistic trade.

it's a tough call and tough to see at this point in time what will happen. But I just keep remembering an interview with Tanguay back when Hartley was first hired as coach of the Flames.
Tanguay kept going on about how hard Hartley was on the young guys and how difficult it was in Colorado. But he attributed a lot of how he developed into a quality NHLer based on how Hartley handled his development. So, who knows really.
It's up to Baertschi at the end of the day. But I do also see the double standards.

The level of paranoia and utter lack of logic in this post is something to behold. Bob Hartley is purposely sabotaging what could be his last chance as an NHL head coach because he personally 'hates' one of his two prize rookies?
It's either that or the guy who coached Sakic Forsberg Roy Blake Bourque and Hejduk to the Cup knows what greatness requires and wants to see Sven attain that level too.
But you could view it as hate, I suppose... I mean, if you're stupid...

That makes some sense. No use in schooling Butler because he's not part of the future. If Hartley can keep the high level of expectation rolling through a long period of suck then he's doing his job.

I'd say that Sven has been underwhelming this year. Benching him will hopefully light a fire under his butt. He's got to learn that he needs to be consistent every game in order to not only stay up, but be the difference maker that he's capable of.
I really hope that this works, because I think he's a huge piece going forward.

I agree with this I think Hartley is pushing Backlund, Sven and in part Ramo, letting them simmer and stew over what he considers some "entitled efforts". That's not to say Sven, Backlund hasn't played well, heck as many have pointed out Sven's play has really improved and is often better than others on the team; But that said some talented players like Crosby can take it to another level with effort and compete. My intention is not compare them with Crosby's talent but that some players play with a chip on their shoulders and can take the game over. Not that I agree, disagree with Hartley's approach just an observation in trying to see if their is more to his madness. Hartley himself has said in the past he likes working with young guys and wanted to show Sven and Backlund how to become better players. Can't remember the articles, I believe he made those comments last season.
FWIW I thought Backlund played with a real chip on his shoulder against LA. Ramo also had composure and played like he was pissed and wasn't going to accept a loss.

You really think he's going to purposely sabotage one of the teams stronger future players just because he doesn't like him? Besides, Hartley has a hard on for Swiss players.
I wanna see the kid play too, but you can't hand him the world. I don't want a Yakupov on this team.

There's no point playing him on the forth line then benching him. Just send him to the A for a bit. One way or another Sven needs to be playing, and if Hartley isn't going to (at this point), play him in Abbotsford.

Hartley likely doesn't want to send him down he is trying to light a match under him. Sven plays like he is holding back at times that's probably where he is being challenged.

Sven should be in the AHL ripping it up and playing on a winner.

Yup. He would be far better off playing on a line with Granlund and Ferland, tearing up the A and leading them on a deep playoff run, than sitting in the press box watching guys like Jones and Galiardi and McGrattan.
Either play him or send him to the A to give him an opportunity to work on his game.
