Just odd all around. The other thing is, google doesn't bring back any results for this festival and there's no mention of this on Foster the People's tour schedule on their website.

Check with a mate and his response was:

told it was presented at a council meeting and that confirmation of dates would have to be reconfirmed.

Sadly, I am not too sure this will happen. I might ask the mayor next time i see him.

Haha I'm sure I'll change my tune come October. Then again I always said I'd be shocked if I make it to 25 so here we go. This festival may be it!

This event has NOT been approved by town council for Aug 16 as it conflicts with Jazz At The Lake. The proponents are to appear before town council at next week's meeting (Apr. 28). At their last appearance they said they'd change the date which could mean a change in the lineup.

It appears whoever put up those posters may have jumped the gun

Who knows, it might be me changing my tune after this summer. I was 21 at the last huge festival I went to and I was beat after the four days. Now I'm 27, going to an even bigger festival that's 7 days long, and on a different continent to boot.

Haha, I'm 28 and just got back from raging at another Coachella. Couple of the people in our group are mid-30's. Don't worry man, you'll be fine for a while.

Haha solid. Good to hear!
It's in Split, which is right on the Adriatic sea.

Should be good. I can't wait to see who they add to the line up in the next two phases. I really can't imagine any more headliners without this reaching Tomorrowland / EDC: LV / UMF: Miami levels of epicness.
Only dj's I really hope are added are ATB and Morgan Page although I've seen them both already, they're still a couple of my favorites and even though there are obviously many more that I'd be thrilled to see, those two would put this over the top! Lot of notable acts on this lineup that were missing in EDC when I went last year.
If Alesso drops out, I may just kill myself though.

That's actually a pretty cool look into how those get approved, though. It's interesting that a town like Sylvan Lake would have a festival with Foster the People (Which I believe would be their first show ever in Alberta) just sitting there ready to be announced like that, and then town council comes in and goes "Nope, small jazz festival near by, rejected!".
And then that's it, a cool festival that would have been the hit of the summer and had thousands of Calgarians heading up just disappears and most people will have never even known it was a possibility.
Makes me wonder what other really cool Calgary/Alberta festivals/concerts are close to being a go and then don't clear one hurdle or another and the general public never knows.
I would bet dollars to donuts that some major outdoors shows that passed Calgary and played most other Canadian cities like Paul McCartney, Rolling Stones, ACDC etc, had serious plans/proposals for Calgary before being shot down for one reason or another here.

Don't get me wrong, I've seen a number of those bands previously... by choice. And if it were in YYC I might just go (yes, I'm a sucker for meat head rock/metal) if the price was right, but a 3 day camping in the mud draw?
|
odd you would single out Airdrie like that is a target market for a music festival near Alix AB.
actually looks like a good show, could get pretty crazy with the mud draw stuff though

I might be wrong, but I think that "thousands of Calgarians heading up" would be seen as a negative by most Sylvan Lake folks.

I know they're basically playing every major festival this summer, but I'm pretty excited Outkast got added to Sziget.

That Thursday main stage lineup is excellent. Not a huge fan of the rest of the lineup though. Might just pick up a single day ticket.

Mostly just interested in Fishbone, Isbell and Cockburn. The festival is generally too granola for my tastes.
