The problem is there are lots of tough scrubs out there that can babysit Sven and Mikael. We didn't have to give up one of our only assets to get that covered.
I'm curious what type of return you were expecting for Tanguay?
I like what Jones brings on the ice, and don't care about what he's paid; it doesn't come out of my pocket and won't limit the Flames in making any other moves.
SOB, is a less talented Kevin Bieksa. Wrap your head around that. His pugnacious attitude makes him an asset whistle to whistle (the whistle ending play until the restart of the next one) but other than that he terrible. Hopefully he fills Sarich's spot in the press box.
The more I think about this trade, the more I like it. Loved Sarich's game and sad to see him go, but you could tell he was close to done. Glad to see Tanguay go. I like that the flames got tougher to play against and got rid of a LW for a right handed RW. Plus as stated earlier, a Glencross - Knight - Jones shut down line has me excited!

It's not like we got some tough power forward who'll put up points while holding down the fort. We might as well have busted Oliwa out of jail.
Except that the guy has put up points and can penalty kill effectively.
He's hardly a tough guy scrub.
I think people are under evaluating what Jones brings to the table. And I'm more likely to think that a 28 year old that has a single bad season after three pretty good ones and had a low shooting percentage had a bad season.
Add on top of that the Avs had a coach who was functionally ######ed and you start to see a reason for player declines.

Jones is declining faster than Tanguay and he is hardly young. He'll be just as old as Tangs when this team is competitive again but contributing a lot less while making more money.
This an awful, awful trade. In every way.
Holy hyperbole, Batman. Time to time a break, methinks.

The list of teams interested in Tanguay was probably shorter than Iggy's infamous trade list. And given the way last season ended, it was pretty clear he wouldn't be coming back this year. There's an old saying -- if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.
Fun fact: Jones was a 9th round draft pick back in 2003.
