We're further along then the Leafs were when he took the job. Our firesale is done and there are legitimate pieces now, unlike in Toronto where there was really nothing besides Luke Schenn. Monahan and Baertschi (and hopefully Gaudreau) will be the cornerstones of this franchise going forward.

maybe he's changed, but actions speak louder than words and if he's in charge I would expect a prospect or pick(s) to be moved for a currently productive player in the next 12 months, whether it happens or is the right move who knows, but it's not a rebuild
|
I just don't see him making the same mistake. After the first Kessel season ended he admited that he read the team wrong. Lets not foget that the season before the Kessel trade they made a push for the final playoff spot. The Kessel trade was supose to get them in. Flames are nowhere near that point.
He also made Vancouver into the team it was and Nonnis came in and did the last couple of tinkerings. Granted Nonnis tinkering was to get Luongo for just about nothing.
I just can't see any GM thinking in 9 months that this team is a 1 or 2 players away from a playoff team.

I think the last thing Oiler fans should be doing is making fun of other teams for offer sheets or potential presidents considering their history and Klown still being the head of hockey for them.

I doubt he makes the mistake of overrating the team here as he did in Toronto. It is clear this is a bottom team.
Also in Vancouver wasn't he the guy that brought in the Sedin sisters? That seems like a pretty big part of the Canucks team, although probably bigger after he left.

Burke has his issues. But who else would people like to see? Guys like Davidson and Nill are off the board.
He built two franchises up to contention. He rushed the third and tried to build it around guys like Phaneuf, Kessel, and Giguere when he should have been looking to draft a core to build around. But I think he learned from that experience.
My biggest issue with Burke is that his best trait is his ability to wheel and deal, and the NHL has turned more into a drafting league then a trading league. But I still think he is a better option then anyone else out there.
The most interesting thing about this (if it is true) is what this means for Feaster. Burke is on the record as saying he doesn't want to be President. He wants to be the GM. I think Feaster is well on his way out if Burke is brought on as president.

He drafted them. Him managing to draft both of them is one of the biggest draft day coots ever.

I don't know how connected Glenn Campbell is but..
@CTVGCampbell According to a very reliable source Brian Burke is indeed joining the #Flames in some capacity #yyc @CTVSportsYYC

Not sure who Glenn is, but didn't some other guy on twitter say the same thing months ago?
I hope its true, but i will believe it when i see it.
edit: the more i think about it wasn't it a CTV employee that said the same thing when the Burke rumblings started before the trade deadline. Is it the same guy?

If true, adding a person of Burke's stature and experience can only be a good thing

Who cares?
It's annoying enough when guys like that troll here, it's even more annoying when you go searching it out on twitter only to post it back.

Yes, and has been for a number of years. Likely has many inside sources...

Well kinda. He's the Sports guy at CTV. Usually those guys don't have much inside info, if he did he'd be at a sports station. He's a catch-all sports guy, nothing too crazy.
It's a perfect opportunity for guys like Campbell to throw something at the wall, if Burke is hired he looks like an insider, if not no one cared in the first place anyways.

Can't say I would be against Burke taking the GM role from Feaster. Feaster certainly has been doing a satisfactory job in the moves he's made given the situation he was in but it's hard to imagine him being the guy that will help lead this team to the next down the road.

Campbell is as legit a sportscasters come in Calgary. Not as "in" as a Peter Maher but not some Joe Schmo DJ on a morning drive show either.
I would suspect that his source would be someone in the Flames front office as he has been in this market for decades.

For future reference the scale goes from In (Eric Duhatschek) all the way to totally out of if mentality (Grant Pollack)
