Forgot to mention the guy the Flames offersheeted to be their "franchise center" is being moved to wing

Yet.....O'Reilly would be a 4th center on a team that was worse than the Flames.
That is how awful the Flames are. Pretty scary!
No?

Maybe O'Reilly is a franchise (or was it superstar?) winger.
Dead horse and all that, but, for future reference, bullet dodged.

The only chance of that IMO is if the Flames draft Nichuskin.

In terms of pure talent? I would say so.

Because Shea Weber didn't go in the 2nd round, right?

I know you don't like Russian players but lets face it. If Valeri played in lets say the OHL or the QMJHL with no ties to the KHL then there would be no doubts about him being a top 5, if not top 3 pick in this draft. He was ranked the top forward in the draft by the ISS before the Mackinnon show at the Memorial Cup. He's been compared to both Malkin and Kovalchuk. In terms of talent he's up their with both Drouin and Mackinnon, and the main reason he's likely viewed behind them because of his KHL status. I'm still pretty iffy on him but if Feaster and co. takes him if he's their at 6 then i wouldn't be upset at all. You'd be dumb to pass on a top 3 talent at the 6th spot in the draft.

Obviously eveything anyone does in a draft is a crap shoot but in terms of pure talent that the eye can see, I have to agree that Nichushkin is the best chance you're going to get at supplanting MacKinnon as the most talented forward in this draft. Drouin get marks as well but you're getting that and the added size and speed of the big Russian. In terms of Surefire NHL quality talented forwards Nichushkin and MacKinnon are 1-2 IMO. Honorable mention to Barkov as well.

lol@the usual suspects of Harry and Lloyd who can't possibly let a thread just be about the thread topic and have to turn it into a Flames suck thread.

I just don't see that happening... ROR is a critical C defensively for them... And on the forecheck... Duchene makes more sense on the wing, except that he established himself as the #1C... Goodness, that's quite the problem to have, but it makes no sense to have ROR on the wing, to me... MacKinnon on RW would make more sense, even.

pretty funny for all the sucking that the oilers have done and drafting forwards with their top picks, that i would take the avs young guys over the oiler youth.
duchene, o'reilly, landeskog
hall, hopkins, yakupov

The Avs blabbing about who they will pick in advance smells fishy to me. I can't recall the last time a team did that. I think they're trying to milk this for an extra asset, personally.

I don't ever recall a team being so upfront about who they plan on drafting and where they will fit in the lineup for next season. It really does seem to be aimed at getting other teams (ie: Florida) to ante up and move up in the draft. Can't say I blame the Avs

Is it possible the Avs are just worried the Flames or someone else are going to cough up a large package for #2 or #3 in hopes of landing Mackinnon and the Avs are just trying to force said team to cough up a little extra to move the #1?
Seems possible given the very odd announcements about the pick.

Lol no
The Avs have some great center depth. RoR is still a 2nd line C on over half the teams in the league. The flames have poor center depth no doubt but the Avs problem is not center ice and is not the reason they were horrible this year
