There would be more than a couple of teams lining up to trade for Ovechkin don't kid yourselves as he equals big revenue for a lot of teams. The average fan in the US only knows the names of two NHL players and that's Crosby and Ovechkin. Say what you want about his playoff failures but he's as big a star as there has been in the NHL since Lemiex and Gretzky.
AO to Capitals fans is like Iginla was to Flames fans. You simply can't trade him when he's the reason that the building is selling out. The Flames could never surround Iginla with a proper supporting cast but the Capitals should still try. AO the player is still one of the top players in the NHL however it's debateable if he's a good captain or leader. That's what McPhee needs to do and it's obvious that there's a leadership void in the dressing room and maybe a lack of offensive depth as well as it seems when OV isn't scoring nobody else picks up the slack. Astute moves need to be made but I don't believe the Capitals are a lost cause as long as most of their top players are still in their prime.
