A lot of that X-files voting must be from people who haven't watched it recently. It doesn't hold up. I won't even get into Dexter over The Wire, because that's disgusting.
Dexter over the wire just disgusts me. That show has become a parody of itself in the last 2 seasons.
X files I can get, game of thrones is still only 2.5 seasons in, tough to compare to a series that was so good for so long. Game of Thrones got my vote though.

Last years season of Dexter was one of the best, it was a huge bounce back for that show. Hopefully this years last season is equal to that.
Agreed the previous couple were just brutal though.
Awesome results for the most part; I actually can't beat The X-Files beat the Game of Thrones runaway train. I've been watching X-Files again the last few weeks, and it still is as good as ever. I gotta disagree with Nik when he says it doesn't hold up, as it most definitely does. It simply works on every aspect, whether it be action, sci-fi, horror, comedy, or drama. Sure the effects might be a tad dated, but that only plays a factor in so many episodes.
Game of Thrones might have the best first couple years compared to every show I think, but you can't rank it yet among the all-time greats. I think a big determing factor is how they incorporate the more mystical elements in like the dragons and White Walkers, as who really knows how well they will be worked in to the show.
Sucks to see The Wire go down though, especially when Dexter only had a couple great seasons, but obviously you can account that to viewership of each show.
Here's hoping the finals will be
The X-Files
Breaking Bad
Seinfeld
The Simpsons
Well whatdya know, I'd actually consider those to likely be my two favorite dramas and two favorite comedies of all-time. The Wire would be right there as well, but Breaking Bad should surpass it once the final season commences.
Good stuff CP!
Sucks that Fox won't allow quality clips from The X-Files, but I forgot how awesome this episode is for example.
Here's their panel from this years Calgary Expo for those interested.

Love me some X-Files, particularly the first 5 seasons, but I'm just a little surprised it beat Games of Thrones rather easily. I think Breaking Bad and Seinfeld will be the final 2. As to the Wire, it never won anything when it was on the air, and it still really never wins anything, but thats the way it should be, the greatest show ever that most people still don't even know exists.

Dexter over The Wire is probably a case of more people watching dexter because if you've seen both shows, there's no way you can say the cartoon that is dexter is better than the wire.
And sopranos losing is also disappointing.
Game of thrones losing given the love it gets on this board is Downright shocking.

.
Yet all of these shows are evidently better than The Shield.

I'm astonished that Futurama has lasted this long. I only watched the first four seasons, and always found it to be pretty good, just not great. There was nothing truly funny about the show, and compared to the Simpsons there are only a couple funny characters (Fry, Bender, and Zap). Some of them are just downright annoying, and not really funny (Hermes, Amy, and yes I even found Zoidberg to become tiresome over time).
I wouldn't even rank it in my favorite ten animated shows, and found no real reason to watch it when it came back based on how poor the movies in-between were. I guess it had a pretty easy path thus far, as Mad Men suffers from the same fate as The Wire (not enough viewers), but it should get bounced this round I believe.
Although I don't find The Hangover that funny either. When I saw a trailer for it yesterday in a theater and people began to laugh I almost wanted to stand up and shout how unfunny the entire trailer was, and how everyone is being suckered in again by the same damn movie (only worse, since it's completely unoriginal now). Maybe I'm missing a sense of humor when it comes to junk like that I guess.

The creators of Dexter made the main character, a serial killer, likable. That in itself is a pretty big feat. While I voted for The Wire it was close. The whole concept of Dexter is impressive.
I found Mad Men boring. I gave up on it in the second season.
I think you're just counting the thoughts and posts of all the loud people on CP that continuously post There are many lurkers that might disagree.

Dexter was top notch in the early going, peaked during the Trinity season and has been really bad since. The Colin Hanks season was downright terrible.
Mad Men is not for everyone. I love it, but can see why others don't.
Bad compared to previous seasons? Sure. But still better than probably every drama on network TV (as sad as that is).
I voted for Justified over Dexter in the first round, so I wished it had lost out a while back. Although I'd say it's better than say The Walking Dead for example.

Yes, bad compared to previous seasons but still way ahead of many network shows but that's not saying much. It's amazing the crap that passes and gets watched by the masses.
