Dodgers are really starting to look like a nice ball club, and this is all without Matt Kemp.

They are pretenders until the Giants get healthy and re-load with starting pitchers next year. #BeatLA

Puig has really jump started that team and it sure helps having the best pitcher in baseball right now in Kershaw. Ramirez has sure bounced back nicely as well.

Tigers traded Garcia, who was looking like a good player in the making. This whole Peralta fiasco forced them to trade for a player who could play SS.

Pirates on fire!
Pirates take sole possession of first place for the first time (this late in July) since the tragic year of Francisco Cabrera. Heck of a last three games by the Bucs; against the team with baseball's best record, no less, and a guarantee they'll come out ahead in this rare old-school 5-game series. At twenty-two games over .500, this just does not look like a team that's going to swoon as did some of their predecessors. They're fun to watch, too; such a plucky bunch.
Cardinals have lost 6 in a row.

Really since the Dodgers got Beckett out of their rotation and traded for Nolasco they've been alright, but Puig has really jumpstarted that team. Their rotation of Kershaw, Grienke, Ryu, and now Nolasco is pretty good, and the likes of Puig, Gozalez, and Ramirez are giving them pretty good offence right now. Maybe all that money they spent might yield something. Especially with the Giants really suffering a World Series hangover this year.

An actual second baseman, that would be awesome.
The more I think about trading Bautista the more I don't like it. He is still a very productive hitter for the Jays and I doubt anything coming back would be equivalent in value.

Can't see what they would give back.
Angels want pitching and can't see them wanting anyone on the Jays staff or Hutchinson/Drabek.
Maybe they take a chance in Sanchez but is AA willing to do that and haven't his numbers dropped now that he isn't being babied?

No way AA parts with Sanchez, not for Kendrick anyway.
Sanchez hasn't had an amazing year but still projects to be a top of the rotation/ace pitcher.

Lifetime Suspension
|
Quote:
Commissioner Bud Selig is prepared to levy a lifetime suspension on New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez, while suspending about eight others before the weekend, two people with knowledge of the negotiations told USA TODAY Sports.
The people were unauthorized to speak publicly because no announcement is expected until Thursday or Friday.
Rodriguez, according to his attorney, David Cornwell, will appeal any suspension, regardless of the severity. The other players are expected to receive 50-game bans, and most are considering accepting the discipline without appealing, according to one of the people.
As many as 20 players were originally linked to Biogenesis, a Miami clinic that allegedly provided performance-enhancing drugs, but some players could not be disciplined for lack of evidence.

If the theory that the arbitrator would likely drop his "lifetime" ban from infinity to 200 games, is true, than I hope Selig just does it without negotiating with the bum for a year and a half suspension. With a lifetime and subsequent lowering to a year and a bit, he wouldn't admit anything and will look like an absolute idiot moreso than he does now. Selig will look like a champ for standing up against him and the union as well. A-Rod admitting at this point is worthless.

Isn't the union on board with this?

Minor, useless, trivia . . . . . I remember watching A-Rod play a game in Calgary against the Cannons.
He was an 18 or 19 year-old phenom, highly touted and freshly signed out of a Miami high school (I think). An interview in the paper hinted at his impatience with being in the minors. I remember him smoking a line drive over the left field wall at the Cannons stadium that someone is probably still trying to find.
That was the start and this looks like the end.

Didn't he also play with the cannons for a bit? Thought both Griffey and him were on the team way back for a little bit.

What is the difference between Palmeiro, Sosa, McGwire, Braun, etc. and Alex Rodriguez? None of these guys were going to admit guilt until they absolutely knew there was no other option, and spun it off to damage control mode. Being honest, I hate Alex Rodriguez due to his arrogance/bigger than the game attidude, but is he any different than any of the above mentioned?
I personally hope Selig gives him 50 games - and makes the Yankees continue to deal with his contract. A lifetime suspension gets them out of probably one of the worst contracts in baseball history.
