Stepniak is worth a first to a desperate team at the last minute .

If we get a first for Stempniak, I'd be calling for the other GM to get fired. The only way we get a 1st in a trade involving stempniak is if he's added to Cammalleri or Tanguay

I think you underestimate what a two way forward on a great contract means to a playoff team. Cammalleri and Tanguay are one dimensional players.

I suppose I should have posted my last post here, but the Oilers already tried that in 2007. 6th, 15th and 21st, and all that came about was Gagner.

I am now hoping for Feaster to do the almost the opposite of the last draft, and use two low firsts for another top 5.

No matter what we do, we should draft the best player available. We are desperate in every position, but goaltending. If it is Drouin fine, just don't take a C because we need one. Always draft the best asset IMO.

Murry got 2 2nds. Regehr and his $4m contract and an NMC got 2 2nds.

But you think a two-way forward who is on pace for 57 pts and costs $2.5M should return less?

What's funny is that Feaster will only get a 2nd or a 3rd for him and then posters will litter the resulting thread with 'what did you expect?' and 'peoples' expectations are too high'

Playoff proven defencemen are worth much much more than streaky 3rd line wingers.

I don't necessarily think Stempniak is worth a 1st rounder, but he might be our best chance at acquiring another. Glencross would be the other since he is also on a decent value deal.

The thought that either Tanguay or Cammalleri would command a first this year with their contracts is crazy to me.

The oilers 2007 picks sucked. They are not good at drafting. The drafts have gotten better as the years have progressed as well.

We should come out with good players.

If Penner can get a 1st rounder, so can Stempniak

Lee is worth at least a 2nd rounder. He's at least as good as Dominic Moore

1st round picks are harder than ever to acquire for two reasons

1) the new draft lottery, plus the recent order changed based on playoff achievements instead of just regular season reverse order, teams are more likely to hold onto their 1st pick even if at the top of standings, and conditions like the Blues lottery protecting their pick will likely start happening more often

2) the 2013 draft is seen as such a strong one

Two or three years ago, you saw trades like Gaustad for a 1st (which was widely seen as an overpayment even at the time and shouldn't be used as a regular benchmark).

As good as Stempniak has been, teams no longer will be dealing 1sts for playoff run extra parts. Bet Penner would never garner that return this year either.

Even with his contract value, would be shocked if a team traded a 1st for Glencross. Teams will surrender multiple 2nds but very loathe to let 1sts go.

If you trade Tanguay, Glencross, Stempniak or even Stajan expect to get a 2nd + something small perhaps. Cammalleri in his prime was worth a late 1st in 2008, you probably don't even get that for him now and he's putting up similar numbers still.

Everyone is jumping on Feaster for perhaps not extracting top value for his assets, but the value of 1st round picks has gone up since last year even and that needs to be taken into account as well.

lol another example of why people are always disappointed, most didn't even want us to sign him last summer...now he is worth a 1st

quit over valuing our players!
