I do wonder what his list would look like. I could see him saying yes to any of Pittsburgh (obvious is obvious), Boston, LA, New York, Chicago, and Montreal. Possibly Detroit and Ottawa too, depending on where he thinks they are.

No need for those teams to trade for Iginla

No one here has any idea what is going on with managment or Iginla, and that's how it will stay until a move is made.
If they announced that the team was rebuilding and Iginla was being traded, people would buy less tickets. Also, you don't want other teams to know you are shopping him actively. You want them to think they have to pay a price to pry him out.

Jarome Iginla can sign a 3 year/$7 million extension with the Flames and remain the "face of the team" through to June, 2016 while his performance devolves until he's little more than an expensive mascot, the Flames rebuild is delayed and Kiprusoff joins a team like the Red Wings or Penguins. Or Jarome Iginla can join a Stanley Cup contender now and free up $21 million in cap space for the Flames rebuild that starts now and perhaps only takes up to 3 years.

I disagree. This is the fallacy that management believes which is what is keeping them from blowing it up. Fans are beginning to grow weary of the current directionless situation and the slow decline into ineptitude. Fans can handle losing as long as progress is being made on a rebuild. The only reason fans stopped showing up in the late 90's is because the team wasn't improving for years and years. I won't disagree that Iginla is still a draw for any hockey fan, but fans will still show up if he's traded, especially if it is for someone like Couturier or similar level.

Iginla can't be traded unless he's willing to go, but it's irresponsible of management to wait for Iginla to bring up the subject. There's no reason to believe that Iginla won't be straight with them, so they need to sit down with him right now and figure out whether he's on board with their vision of the future of this team and get some indication of whether he's likely to re-sign here. If he's not, they need to find out if he's open to a trade. Assuming that the trade would be to a contender, it's a pretty safe bet that he'd waive his NTC if he has no intentions of staying in Calgary next season.

I don't think Iginla would get a Nash/Carter/Richards type return, even though teams pay more at the deadline.
Nash - Anisimov, Dubinsky, Erixon, 1st (2013)
Carter -Voracek, 1st (8th), 3rd
Carter - Jack Johnson (former top 5 pick), conditional 1st
Richards - Schenn (former top 5 pick), Simmonds, 2nd
But on the other hand, teams have shelled out a 1st for guys like Paul Gaustad (21st)and Kyle Quincey (19th) at the deadline, and Troy Brouwer (26th) over the summer. So his value is more than just a low 1st round pick.
I could easily see Iginla netting a low 1st (20-30), a prospect who wasn't drafted in the top 15, and conditional picks based on how the team does in the playoffs or if he re-signs (1st for cup win, 2nd for conf final, 1st/2nd for re-sign).

I wonder what people on this board would think if Feaster came out and announced that we will be buyers at the deadline.

Pretty much. They either need to extend him before the trade deadline or they need to ask him for a list of teams he'll waive for... waiting until the offseason isn't an option (at least not a good one).

Considering his track record of doing the opposite of what he says he's going to do, people would probably be quite pleased.

I agree that management probably won't trade Iggy. I could however see the Flames being buyers at or before the deadline and Iggy and anyone else we trade for walking away in the summer.

If Feaster is going to be a buyer then he is going to do it within the next couple of games. Flames need wins now for Feaster to hope they can make the playoffs. Waiting 2 weeks with this team would make making the playoffs harder than it already is.
Kind of a scary time right now for some flames fans that want to see a new direction. We are close to getting what we want, but i think Feasters job is on the line. I could see a horrible trade with one of our few prospects going the other way, just to try and save season and job.

2 seasons would be very optimistic in my opinion.
There are 2 important aspects to rebuilding successfully:
- Drafting and player development (and let's be honest, top 3-5 picks help a lot in most cases).
- Supplementing the team with appropriate free agents (and being able to keep developed players past free agency).
If a team can't capitalize on both points, they are doomed to a long rebuild or a series of unsuccessful rebuilds.
For point 1, look no further than the Blue Jackets who drafted terribly and had trouble building anything because of it. How much confidence to we have in the Flames for this? Personally, I think this could be a problem. Granted, Feaster's drafts are still an unknown at this point, but overall, we have been one of the worst teams when it comes to developing our own high end talent.
For point 2, you can look at the Dollar Bill era for Chicago or the current Oilers. I think the Flames are going to be so-so in this area. The owners are willing to spend (and overpay) to bring in talent, but don't underestimate the power having a player like Iginla gives to luring players. Let's be honest, I have nothing against Calgary as a city but it's not the top destination. Iginla has been very vocal about loving Calgary and when a player with his ability chooses to stay, it helps the image a great deal. I don't think having Glencross or Stajan calling up free agents to sell them on the city is going to have the same effect.
Iginla was the best thing to happen to the Flames this generation for more than just his playing abilities. I don't think people are going to realize this until it's too late.

I don't think this is the truth. The past couple years the Flames haven't done anything to make anyone think they should be buyers yet they were either considered buyers or at least stayed the way they were.
Blind faith doesn't need to be justified. This team could go 0-12 and still be buyers because of hope

I don’t really understand the viewpoint that the Flames ticket market won’t support a rebuilding team because rebuilding teams don’t win many hockey games. Look at our record over the past couple years – the Flames are already not a great hockey team, yet the game attendance numbers are apparently still very strong. A large, sustained, drop in the price of oil is more likely to impact ticket sales then the on ice product. The market here is more likely to support a team that is in 25th place but has signs of optimism for the future then they are a team that is 25th place and keeps going through the same process over and over again.
It’s like the ownership and/or management refuse to think of themselves as a losing franchise and that by committing to a ‘rebuild’ it makes them one. Call it what you want, but our record over the past couple years says we are anything but a successful team. The Flames can rebuild on there terms by proactively moving diminishing assets or they can rebuild on someone else’s terms when those assets inevitable leave anyway.
Don’t let foolish pride cloud sound judgment.
