CalgaryPuck and Reddit are the two sites that I visit daily. I'm never out of the loop when i'm with out people and often have many new things to talk about because of those two sites.

I mainly agree that you find what you look for on reddit. I had no idea there were areas with CP on reddit until PsYcNeT started this thread... so thanks for raising awareness? I think PsYcNeT is preaching to the wrong crowd, and possibly with the wrong message.

If people stopped going on reddit wouldn't the entire population migrate elsewhere... bringing both the good and bad with it? Seems misguided to me.

What a bizarre couple of weeks it's been for PsYcNeT. He went from barely ever posting for the longest time to going into full out battles over nerd related topics. Last week it was the whole Playstation vs PC gaming thing. They're just video games man, they don't matter in the grand scheme of things.

To this mini meltdown over some rival site of a some other wesbite that he loves.

I think you need to turn down the geek from 11 to like 5, man.

Truth be told, my work has a downtime from Dec-Mar and I realized I could log on CalPuck from there, since the site in general doesn't spike my work filters.

Hence, serious business internet drama.

In all seriousness, I joined reddit for the first time about 2 months ago, for 2 groups that I wanted to check out. I remember hearing some stuff about reddit and bad stuff going on but that was the extent of my knowledge.

I rarely use it, but thanks anyhow for the historical background, I will still use it because the 2 groups I use have about .0000001% controversial content.

Are there other sites that offer something similar to Reddit (I don't mean the cp)? I'm not a reddit user, but the idea of a site where there are a multitude of small communities that can be very specific to a single interest and still have an active user base is pretty appealing.
The argument in the OP seems reasonable to me and if there is an alternative I would prefer to use that. While CalPuck is good for many things I am generally an outsider here because of my location and alienation from local goings on. Nonetheless, I persist in my use because of the activity of the community.

Offering some not so dubious alternatives seems a better route to getting people off of reddit.

Edit: I just visited reddit for the first time and was able to instantly find a community of people talking about wine with a large discussions of biodynamics (which I'm currently doing an article on). While I still see the point of the OP I have to acknowledge that it is pretty cool to be able to find a community like that so quickly and easily.
