Pretty scary that anyone in our hockey ops actually agreed to expanding Comeau's role.

2 natural LW's playing center in the top 9. LOL
Iggy this week has taken hits from the media and from CP , but this has to be the biggest slap in the face.
Question for Cp:
Did Comeau get bumped up to #1 line or did Iggy and Glencross get bumped down to #3 line? What a joke.
|
Retooled 4th line.

The number of NHL capable guys 25 and under is maybe 3-4.
This team is bringing in new guys but not as a rebuild as a way to try and get to 8th spot as they say.
Bringing in Hudler, Cerevneka and Wideman is definitely not rebuilding it is shuffling the deck chairs around.
|
At least these deck chairs look to have a fresher coat of paint than Amonte, Friesen, Nolan, Hagman, Kotalik, Jokinen and Bertuzzi. Those are a lot of failed reclamation projects they tried to cram in the top 6.

Sure it'll survive, but let's remember this franchise has made it past the first round exactly once since 1989 and is in philosophical limbo right now.
Not sure why its considered such an overreaction to react to some puzzling decisions.
Jones, most likely our best 4th liner, waived. Comeau, by almost all accounts the worst player on the team gets shifted to centre (an already weak position for the team) to play between our struggling star forward and a good top 6 winger. Its a head scratcher. Maybe I'm just dumb but these moves just don't compute. If you have some great insight into these decisions I'd love to hear it.

Yes the Comeau promotion is beyond confusing and absurd. The guy is a bum. Even a casual hockey fan can see that. He is Fata 2.0...fast and absolutely useless!
I don't mind it in the sense it kills our playoff hopes (if they weren't already dead) and ensures a top pick for us...but if we are going to flop and rebuild this is certainly going to kill Iginla's trade value. He is going to produce even less.
With the shuffling of players and swapping goalies in and out to evaluate them it appears Feaster has given up on the season and wants to see what they have in the goaltending department. A shortened season where the flames are currently out of the playoff picture is not a logical time to experiment otherwise.

Blake Comeau is going to center our top line I can't wait. We have the best center depth in the NHL.

One word - relax.
He lined up with Iggy in practice, hasn't played a shift yet at C and this place is going bonkers.
Believe there is something procedural in having Jones waived (ie contract spot) and for all we know Comeau is part of a bigger deal that will bring back a better C than Jones. One thing that is apparent here is that signing Begin has screwed us in terms of roster flexibility. And have to wonder if Feaster could have done a minor league deal to get a G after Kipper got hurt so we didn have to burn a roster spot on Taylor. Too bad we couldn't get a pick back but players like Jones are a dime a dozen.
If/when Comeau lines up at C with Iggy in a game situation, then we can start to panic. Until that time, we can wonder what deal Feaster has in place that necessitates waiving Jones.

The Islanders and Columbus have never rebuilt. Unless you can recall a season where they moved out several high-calibre veterans for picks and prospects as part of a long-term strategy (as opposed to cost-cutting).

There is some over reacting going on, but I also think the guys calling out others for it don't seem to understand the issue.
It's not just about waiving Jones, it is understood that Jones played a minor part on this team and that he was easily expendable. To me, the problem is more about waiving Jones over guys he has completely out-played, like Jackman, Begin, and Comeau. Not only that, but this "meritocracy" then decides to promote Comeau, who has not been good, to the first line? It just defies logic.
This board has posters at both extremes. Some continuously and strongly defend the teams decisions over the years, including plenty of transactions that are now considered ridiculous. On opposite side, there are posters who seem to hate every move the team makes. These two types unfortunately do not mix well.
