VAN deserves to be anchored down in sal cap to Luongo. They thought they were being so slick with that circumvented over the top length of years contract.

No GM should take that contract off their hands, especially for what Gillis is demanding in return.

We'll see what the mood will be like for today's game but it was bad around the garage yesterday. Make no mistake, Luongo wants out and out bad. With that said he is a pro and has nothing but support for Schneider, his issues are with the higher ups. Don't believe he will be a distraction but the media will make one if Schneider falters at all.

Not sure if I really believe anything from Nonis and Gillis on the rumored returns but the rumblings in the bowels yesterday were that is was all about salary and Vancouver had to eat some of it or no deal regardless of assets go back and forth. That cap hit is hard to take next year with cap going down and any old pick will not get it done.

If he wants out all he has to do is broaden his list. Given the ridiculously depressed market, Something could potentially be made to happen with any of Washington, Detroit, Philadelphia, Chicago (if they don't win the cup), Colorado, Minnesota, New Jersey, even St. Louis.

I dont think the money is the problem in taking salary

I thought it was cap hit?

I am sure if it was just cash the Canucks would be fine with some

Its not really the cap hit, if it was no one would have been talking to Gillis, as they all know what Luongo costs, its what Gillis wants back for players.

Lol. That Luongo contract is so ridiculous.

I read your post thinking maybe the Flames should take him, if the Canucks are willing to take the Flames crappy long term contracts like Tanguay and Wideman, but then I go to capgeek and look at how many extra years are on Luongo's contract compared to the Flames bad contracts and even I can't do that trade, and I hate Tanguay and Wideman on this team.

Who says he hasn't expanded his list? Not many teams are in need of 34 year old goalie with a big cap hit and a lot of years. The market is very small. It is easy for us to throw the term buyouts out there but most teams do not want to bring in someone to have to turn around and buyout one of their own guys. We are talking real money now and teams do not like that. Teams want young and cheap right now not old and expensive.

Luongo said it, the contract sucks, no one wants it.

The issue is money and cap hit. Toronto (or anyone) wants Vancouver to eat some of it. Of course Vancouver doesn't want to, who would. Remember you cannot bury cap hits in the minors anymore, NHL contracts in the AHL count against the cap. Some teams are in tough next year.

again, the contract is an issue obviously (would be for Hossa/Kovalchuk etc. as well)

but if they put him in waivers he's getting claimed 100% and they are free of it

this isn't a buyout situation

Gillis' ego will never allow him to to put Luongo on waivers. I guess we will find out in the summer what happens.

Don't have much to contribute to this thread other than I thought Luongo's comments yesterday were pretty interesting about how his "contract sucks." Those are pretty strong words.

He also said if he could get out of his contract to have a fresh start he would.

I don't know if I've ever heard a $80 million dollar man say that before.

Friedman on the Big Show right now saying things are likely getting so bad between Luongo and Gillis that if Luongo is not traded by the draft, the two sides will have to sit down and discuss the options for a buyout, Luongo is that upset with the situation.

I don't think Van gets a better offer than Scrivens, a 2nd, and a 3rd in the summer.

While I definitely sympathize with Luongo and have been a huge fan of his for years, he's hardly blameless in all this. You can't sign a 12 year contract and then ask for a trade to a single team that's not interested in you a year and a half into the deal and expect everything to go smoothly. The entire season could've easily been lost to a lockout and when the new CBA was agreed upon Luongo openly admitted that he might have to spend the shortened season in Vancouver. 12 more games and the playoffs as a backup is hardly the end of the world.

I expect this will all be handled around the draft and the Canucks will get nothing of consequence (expect perhaps a bad contract) in return.

All I heard from my Canuck fan buddies and Canucks fans on this board is that this would be rectified LAST summer, then I heard before the season started, then he wouldn't be playing the whole season in Van, now its going to happen this summer again?

I laugh out loud at Gillis, Luongo and Canucks fans who thought it would be easy to offload Roberto and that ridiculous contract he was signed to.

I think Lu would go anywhere right now even Edmonton or Calgary. I think he stated in his presser that he was never approached with any offer. Poor guy just wants to play as a starter and this whole thing is just embarrassing for him.

I think he could easily be moved for a simple mid round draft pick but Gillis would never admit to a mistake like that, even though everyone already acknowledges that he made a mistake.

I really wonder how he will play if called upon in the playoffs. If he brings his A game and carries the Canucks and Gillis to a cup, he will have vindicated Gillis, the guy who put him through this year of hell.

Well it seems that the lockout and Florida's lack of interest screwed the Canucks. Had there not been a lockout and Luongo didn't dream of going back to Florida he would have been traded by now.

As for his contract sucking, well Luongo probably believes that he can sign a 5 year deal for an average of 5.33M a year if he was a UFA this summer, so ya he's not losing anything at this point by saying his contract sucks.

Whole thing was cacked by Gillis from the start, once you sign Luongo to that deal you are stuck with him, which isn't a bad thing he is a damn good goalie, again the emergance of Schneiderisn't a bad thing, should have traded Schneider for a kings ransom as a young nos 1 goalie.

Even after screwing that up should have played Luongo this year to showcase him while assuring Schnieder he is the future.

You have to be a special kind of crappy GM to screw up having 2 franchise goalies.
