With all the criticism about her fake hunger strike, I wouldn't be surprised if she does a fake trip to a hospital ER in the next few days to make it seem like she really is going hungry.

Well I think that Mulcair is the only leader who hasn't met with her? (Harper hasn't, but will in the next few days if she shows). I would not leave this with the opposition MPs though. The government has sent a lot of money there over the last decade, and if this was a known issue its ridiculous that so much has been sent.

That's probably a good call. Complete with a statement from the hospital about "not divulging information on private matters and patient confidentiality".

Too dangerous for her to do that.
I was thinking about this last night and looked it up, on a liquid diet clense consisting of cabbage soup people are losing a minimum of 10 to 15 pounds per week. so at this point she should look like she's lost nearly 60 pounds, which would probably show pretty significantly on her small frame.
When I looked up liquid diets most people were supplementing with protein shakes and other supplements to slow that loss down to a more reasonable 5 pounds a week which would still be nearly 20 pounds for Spence which would show.

The federal government's responsibilities for aboriginal peoples just got a whole lot bigger.
After more than 13 years of legal wrangling, the Federal Court ruled on Tuesday that Metis and non-status Indians are indeed "Indians" under a section of the Constitution Act, and fall under federal jurisdiction.
The decision helps to clarify the relationship between Ottawa and the more than 600,000 aboriginal people who are not affiliated with specific reserves.

That would be a pretty serious disaster. You can't simply give money to people who for the most part don't know how to deal with it properly.

That's the problem with the system now, when you turn 18 you get a check for $25,000. Most of these kids then party it away.

That is exactly my point. Right now you're giving money to the 'leadership' of the reserves who often mismanage it to the point of outright corruption. Giving $100k to every Native American person might make us feel like we got the problem off our back, but it won't end well.
There only chance Canada has in terms of 'solving' the problem is to target the younger generation. Get them to focus on finishing high school, and getting full-time jobs or perhaps even going to post-secondary.
There is a huge cultural problem that will take years to solve. I know many Native kids that were pressured into not giving into the 'white man.' Finishing high school and being successful was often seen as 'giving in.' That attitude needs to be fixed.
I have a hard time believing that with all the smart people in this country, nobody has a good idea of how to start fixing things.

To be fair, if I lived on a reserve (particularly a northern one) a really good parka would be among my most prized and valued possessions. I'd prefer to spend $800 on that than a TV or a laptop or whatever. Anyway wouldn't be surprised if they got them in bulk or something.

This is true but the people who make this sort of suggestion don't really care so much if it ends WELL, they just want it to end. Such that this is not a significant political issue anymore - here's $100k, now there is no more first nations status and you're just like every other minority. Which sentiment is, in my view, understandable, if defeatist.

And it is less than a days wages if your life partner sets you up with a gravy gig. Seeing that asshat interviewed and trying to justify his pay, while the bulk of his people live in squalor, RGMG!!

We lived inside the Arctic Circle when I was a kid (Coppermine, now known as Kugluktuk). My parents spent a great deal of money on really good coats for all of us before we moved up there. Did we use them? For what seemed like about 5 minutes, before we were seeking out the handmade parkas. They were much better than our coats were. Got a lot of use out of those coats when we moved back to Alberta but if we were ever to live that far north again (not likely), I wouldn't even bother with the 'commercial' coats. The parkas were MUCH cheaper in price than the coats my folks bought.

Jeez, I was just saying how I was not surprised P12 pointed out the clothing that someone was wearing. I did not want to dispute that people on reserves do, in fact, need warm coats...

This only applies to a few reserves in Alberta that get oil money. Most reserve members get $5 a year on Treaty Day but carry on with your bogus argument made of bogus facts.
