Not the answer I expected. I don't believe there is a child in the world that at one tiime or another hasn't escaped their parent's sight for a few seconds or more. It's a game to them. To T@T's point, no parent can be perfect, and everyone has been in a situation that could have turned bad, no matter how cautious we are.

There is no way I'd let my daughter near a railing over which she could fall, but I'm paranoid about that. I don't even like the idea of her getting close to the rail on a boat. But I know lots of parents that are less cautious. My initial reaction to this story was what the heck was the mother thinking, but taking a step back I'm not sure there is enough information to condemn her.

This lady just lost her 2 year old. She wasn't out on a bender getting drunk and leaving her kids at home to get into trouble. She was spending time with them at a zoo. She suffered a tragic accident. I can't even begin to fathom her pain, and I can't even bring myself to try. I WON'T even try. It's way to horrible.

If the boy had escaped his mother while she tried to put him on the railing, this discussion might not occur.

The kid didn't get away from her, she PUT him there. She consciously stood a wobbly toddler on a railing overlooking a large drop and vicious dogs.
