Surface 3 seems pretty good. My only concern is heat issues in the i7 model. If everything checks out post-release, I'll be picking up either the 256 or 512 version.

Still love my Pro 1. Didn't see enough of a reason to get the Pro 2, but a 4th gen i7 has "shut up and take my money" written all over it.

All things considered, with a windows OS you will allways have to deal with malware. I can not afford to use any windows products as the constant firefighting of viruses, not to mention the continuous fear of visiting certain websites and opening suspicious emails is more than a drag.

I love the fact that I can open my macbook or grab my ipad and just work without worries.
Definitely worth the few extra bucks on the initial purchase. Even that pays for itself when you dont need to purchase virus protection, office programs or even the OS upgrades which are all free for macs.

Windows is no match. Apple has a clear advantage due to the fact tat they manufacture the hardware and software themselves. Windows has to keep their system open to allow the installation of their OS on hundreds of different hardware configurations.

I was once a die-hard microsoft fan, not only because I am a certified MS Engineer, but because I lived and breathed PC's. User Admin, servicing, configuration etc. But Apple makes much more sense. Steve Jobs had the right idea from the get go. Quality will prevail.

So, windows 8 tablet an iPad killer? I think not.

^ I was going to respond to how wrong everything in that post is, but nah. Not worth it.

I love my Surface 2 and have dumped my laptop in favour of it. I am all over the i7 Surface 3. Any word on when it hits the street up here?

You are able to pre-order the Surface Pro 3 already since May 21 from the Microsoft Store, Microsoft-branded retail outlets and select third-party retailers. However, it won't ship until June 20 in Canada and the US.

I own a computer repair company and 90% of our business comes from microsoft windows based problems. virus removal, failing hardware, mis-configuration, etc. We repair windows machines using Mac's due to their reliability and simply due to the fact that we can not get re-infected by our customers viruses. Apple devices are essential for the fast and efficient repairing of windows based devices. The stronger will help the weak back on their feet.
I strongly hope that people keep buying and using PCs. The constant repair of these machines keep thousands of businesses thriving.
Who's naive now?

In this day and age, you somehow manage to have a virus on your computer...then it's your own fault, not Windows.

This Mac/Windows debate is decades old, there's no need to bring it up again.

I come to this thread to read cool stuff about the Windows tabs, particularly the new Surface. If I wanted to read the same ancient crap about "Micro$oft and teh viruses", I'd just go to the comments section of CNET or similar.

I'm a big fan of the Surface concept, just wished it had a second USB port or a full sized SD card reader. Got my parents the Surface Pro and they love it though.

Here's a review from the Verge.

i7 ships later than the other 2 models. I think they're estimating an August 31st ship date.

What's it like typing on the cover/keyboard? I've only managed to fiddle with one for a min or two in Vegas and didn't get a good feel for it.

You're Microsoft-certified. Not a certified Microsoft engineer.

I don't know about the keyboard they demoed with the Surface 3, but my touch keyboard for the Surface 1 is good for the odd CP post, internet search, etc, but I wouldn't want to be doing any significant word processing with it.

My first venture into the Surface world was with an RT model and a Touch Cover. The RT model itself was a disappointment (just RT vs Pro reasons), but the Touch Cover was really surprising to me in that it not only actually worked as advertised, but it even fairly responsive.

Having said that, though, you're right about not using it for any significant amounts of typing.

When I switched out from the RT to the Pro, I also switched to a Type Cover, and I love both.

I couldn't handle the touch cover and switched to the type cover after about a week. I have been using touch keyboards for decades, however, and am biased. I can't explain why, but I kept "losing" the keys. Probably a personal preference thing though. I probably write with the stylus about 25% of the time.

OS X accounts for about 7% of OS installations. If the other 10% of your problems are Macs, your anecdotal evidence points to Windows being more reliable.

They saved me from the same problem a while ago. you can book them online and they'll come do the work right in your office immediately. its worth the $80 bucks to have stuff done professionally.
this is their website: xps.unmix.ca
i think the tech that always comes to our office is terry but any tech there is probably great.
You own a computer repair company that has to hire computer repair companies? You're knowledge in the field must be even deeper than your first post indicated....

He actually put some effort into signing up for CP just to advertise his company.

Lucky for us, he is so smart that he is scared to use the Internet on a PC, because he hasn't figured out how to not get viruses, so I think I will hire him to... wait, if you can't figure out how to not get viruses, then you likely should be the client, not the person fixing the computer.
