I suggest you guys see Chronicle. Action movie from January. The action, story, and effects were better than anything in the Avengers. I actually cried in the theatre for the first time in an action film since the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan. Absolutely incredible.

You cried during Chronicle and you call Saving Private Ryan an action film? Your movie credibility around here will take a bigger beating than mine after liking Transformers.

My problem with that is they will blow all the realism down the toilet. I know that there isn't much realism in The Avengers universe right now (with a demi-God, old man Rogers, Hulk Smash, etc.), but a 100 foot/1mm man and women would seam ridiculous and I don't think it would fit in at all with what The Avengers has created.
As characters it would be nice to have them, but their powers are too unbelievable to me for them to be on film.

Chronicle was a 6-7/10 at best.

Yeah Chronicle was neat and I enjoyed it, but the acting was so damn poor it brought me out of the story at times.

Probably a little late on the random musings, but here they are anyways.
I have watched it twice, and loved it both times. Just a solid superhero action flick. If you're expecting "Gone With the Wind" then give your head a shake. Its a movie about a cheesy super soldier, an angry green dude, norse god and cocky billionaire with toys.
I think it appeals more to the comic book and superhero nerds than it does to people just wanting to see a great movie. I can see how the types that aren't really into Superheros, or the comics, hear all the hype and see the broken records and go check it out only to be either confused or disappointed.
Onto the movie. I was impressed with how each character both had their moment, and also got the chance to be awesome in some action sequences.
Captain America was outmatched in just about every fight, but he kept on trucking. When Stark told him to " call it" and he called the play, I thought that was a good moment for him.
The team fighting each other; I always thought as far as strength and power went, Thor was essentially the Superman of Marvel. So I found it interesting that Iron Man could give him a run for his money. But then Thor took on the Hulk and did quite well....so I don't really know how they all stack up against each other.
There was one continuous shot action sequence that started with Black widow jumping on the flying bike thing, then follows to Iron Man coming to help Captain America on the street (and using Cap's shield to multiply Iron Man's hand blast) Then follows up to Hawkeye on the roof and finishes with Thor and the Hulk taking down the flying serpent thing. That whole sequence was pure awesome.
"Point Break""Legolas""Reindeer Games" and Hulk punching Thor. Hilarious
Just a really good summer action movie.
As for this weird comparison to Chronicle. In this day and age of constant film adaptations and remakes, I thought it was a fresh idea but that's about it. The acting was average for a film that needs solid acting to be effective. I think there were also whole pages of the script that called for each character to scream at the top of their lungs. I swear those kids screamed for the whole damned movie. It really started to annoy the hell out of me.

I don't know why people are giving negative impressions towards the acting in Chronicle. Sure whoever played Matt (the cousin) was pretty bad, but I thought the other two (Steven and Andrew) were pretty damn good and played their roles convincingly. That goes double for Dane DeHaan who played Andrew.
It's hard to compare the two since The Avengers is a 200 million dollar blockbuster, while Chronicle only cost 12. One thing I must say about Chronicle is that is far surpassed the expectations I had going in. I only ending up seeing it because of the reviews and since I had a couple free cereal passes I needed to use.
As for the Avengers the only reason I hesitate to give it full marks is because we know the sequel should be better (like with almost every comic book movie franchise). It suffered a tad with not introducing a real menace, and having the random alien threat storyline has been done to death before. With Thanos being featured in the sequel I expect a better movie overall.

Yeah I watched Chronicle last night, and failed to see the comparison between Chronicle and Avengers, outside of there being superpowers in both movies. They're not even the same genre. I would lump Chronicle in with other action cam movies such as Cloverfield, Troll Hunter. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Chronicle, but I would still say not as good as either of the other two.
The only way we can compare them is cinematography, acting and writing. For Chronicle, so much of it was just so contrived. Who sits around with their group of friends and says "This is the best day of my life"? That whole scene made me LOL as they were clearly pointing out the height of their friendship before the fall. And seriously, the placement of cameras was so lazy. "I'm filming for my blog, while some dude is standing in front of my door expressing his feelings." And by the end it seemed like they just gave up on the whole "filming from amateur camera" thing for the final fight. Understandable that Chronicle had a fraction of the budget, but that doesn't excuse some of these things from irking me.
With Avengers, it always knew what kind of movie it was. A campy, fun, action packed movie about a team of super heroes. And it executed that soooo damn well. Chronicle was good, but overly melodramatic, with average acting, and often contrived.

LOL, that one scene where Matt goes and talks to the girl at her house and he is on his cell phone with her filming it was so pointless. That scene made no sense to the context to the movie; their entire sub-plot was contrived and had nothing to do with anything, it's like they just knew they needed a love interest so they put this in. Was awkward to watch and boring.

that was the best part about The Avengers, NO love interests (aside from the brief scenes with Pepper Potts)

And those scenes involved Gweneth Paltrow in short shorts. So no complaints from me...

I don't think it's fair to write a film off for being similar to another. You can count the number of truly unique films that are released in a decade on one hand.

I agree 100%. It was a welcome relief that the Avengers didn't force a love story. That is my biggest complaint with Hollywood these days. I guess it tests well with audiences or something.

I can see that. Matt was terrible. Andrew was great. I guess I just chose to forget the bad performances because I saw the entire film as a vessel for Andrew's story.

I don't think CPers are asking me for film advice anyway. I am one of very few posters who was disappointed by The Avengers. When I was living in Vancouver I was very involved in the film community. At the Pacific Cinematheque and at the UBC Film Society people usually agree with the few things I have to say about movies. I guess my opinions are just very different from the general populations. I'm happy to answer any more questions about my crazy views, so ask away.
And I didn't really mind Transformers either. It delivered exactly what was promised.

Chronicle is not comparable to Avengers. Outside of the fact that in both movies dudes be flying, they have nothing in common. No idea why this movie was even brought up.

Finally saw it yesterday, I don't get the comparisons to TDK, but definitely a fun, summer action movie. I love how sarcasm has finally become the humour of choice the past few years, some great one liners in this one, especially by Iron Man. I don't think I loved the movie like a few here, but I definitely enjoyed it. 7/10
I admittedly don't know much about Marvel so this may be an obvious answer, but just a question about Hulk that I found confusing;
EDIT: Just reading more of this thread, didn't even realize there were 2 more scenes during the credits. Missed em both, horsepoo.

Ha. I guess I just feel for Andrew and for his friend. I'm not too far removed from being a teen myself. They did a good job of making realistic teen characters that were put into a situation out of their control.
