Playing ball yesterday in the grassy field made me feel like I was in NWT. There were swarms of mosquitoes so thick that it was interfering with catching the ball. fataing disgusting breathing in those little bas**rds, equally disgusting is wearing a 1/4 inch layer of repellant to keep them off. I forgot to spray some on my fingers and stick them in my ears. I found that out in the 2nd inning.

Played at Heritage Pointe Saturday (incidentally, we saw Joel Otto there) and it was absolutely crazy there. I was sitting in the golf cart looking up at the white roof and there must have been about 50 mosquitoes on the roof. I felt like I was in that Off commercial where the guy sticks his arm into the mosquito cage, only I was sitting in that cage! I was coated in Deep Woods Off and I thought I was doing good but quickly realized that they bit me several time through my hair. Nothing like a little West Nile straight to the brain. Wear a hat, and Off yourself EVERYWHERE!

Agent Orange sounds acceptable right about now....

Well there was a big enough break last week for the builder to finally put eavestrophs (sp?) on our new house, so I am ready for the rain this time (not)

Looks like it is still going to rain for a bit.

June was completely whiped out by the rain. Man this has been a crappy summer so far for weather.

I hope things turn around for Stampede or it could be a dismal year for them.

This summer has been absolute hell for me. My shinguardty summer job is on Spruce Meadows maintenance, we have been through all sorts of shinguard trying to keep the courses looking decent so rich little brats can ride their horsies on them.

F off rain!!!

Man, flooding sucks. Some of the pics from Calgary are pretty scary.

Brings back bad memories of flooding here last year, when we had 14 inches of unforecast rain in a few hours!

That makes ours look pretty minor.

Just drove through Okotoks and the Sheep River is already over its banks in the town . . . . again. It looks like the downtown will flood tonight again. Tron's parents place west of town is also in danger again. . . . the river is way over the banks there too.

The Highwood River in High River rose about five or six feet through the day and was pounding the railway bridge . . . . . again. Sucker trucks already in the downtown trying to keep up with the backflow from the storm drains.

Lastly, unbelieveably, my house about 900 feet above Calgary, with no river or lake in sight and no flat spot to be found, has the ground water coming up to such an extent that the drains in my furnace room are starting to spew water!! Not major yet . . . but the rain better stop soon.

So much for my joke that all the ice caps in all the world would have to melt before I'd have a problem with flooding.

yeah, nose creek was quite high this morning on my bike in. The water was knee deep under 32ave N. Supposed to clear up tomorrow, I really hope that's true.

F off mosquitoes!

If you are going to be walking in grass (time to mow the lawn hooray!) then I suggest a liberal shower of Off! or buy yourself some scratching sticks.

I love hearing how "this summer sucks" when it's only technically been summer for a week now.

I can't believe people are getting worked up over the mosquitoes here. After spending some time in northern BC there is nothing in terms of insects that can have any effect on myself. I hear people whining about little bites, try having deer flies and other bugs the size of your thumb chomping down on your leg through 2 layers of clothing.

I say F off to ground water.
Its started creeping up from under the foundation into the same space that goat 3 inches of water last week.
Time for a sump pump, or, maybe I can harness the water table under the house and open the neighbourhood gheyser.

Down here near Lethbridge, I decided to take a walk through a rock quarry, with no standing water nearby or foilage. And the skeeters were already as bad as winnipeg. It's not going to be a good summer. I'm going to empty the shelves of skeeter repellant tomorrow.

Agreed. Fort McMurray bugs are much worse than this. I can handle a few mosquitoes.

Meanwhile here in S Ontario we are entering our 3rd week of 30+ Temperatures. Its so hot that the bugs have been fried to death and all we have left to do is enjoy our cold drinks on the patio at night...right after the BBQ.
