Good grief...with all that debris on the ground it would be brutal to see any high winds around there, nevermind tornado level.
Just unreal and so sad.

Yikes, stay safe ernie!:
At 937 PM CDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar continued to
indicate a tornado near Carl Junction... or 10 miles northeast of
Galena... moving northeast at 50 mph. This storm has had a history
of producing funnel clouds.
Locations impacted include Airport Drive... Asbury... Brooklyn
Heights... Carl Junction... Carterville... Crestline... Lakeside...
Lawton... Neck City... northern Joplin... Oronogo... Purcell... Waco and
Webb City.
In addition to a tornado... this storm is capable of producing
destructive straight line winds in excess of 70 mph.

Here's hoping doppler indicated is all there is. Rotation without a tornado please.

My husband is in Joplin right now with FEMA and he just called me and told me he's safe but he's in the middle of a hella storm. I hope no one else gets hurt tonight, and I wish he wasn't there. Ernie and family, positive thoughts your way.

Looks like Joplin proper isnt going to see tornadic activity but straight line wids in excess of 70 MPH are expected...which is just dreadful news either way.
Hope you are OK ernie.

Made it through this first wave. Tornado warning was lifted at 10 pm but they left the sirens going until a few minutes ago because of winds 75 mph+.

Thanks Im all good... My wife is the one that takes it rough ... She is used to Calgary weather and hates Oklahoman Spring. She always asks how I stay so calm. Lived in OKC 27 out of my 29 years I guess you just get so used to it . Unlike reports I am hearing about Sunday in Joplin, I learned from a young age that when the weather man says Tornado , take cover and the Sirens go off .. that it is serious and its time to get to shelter.
We are looking at buying a new house here and the first thing I am doing is putting in a tornado shelter.

One of our locally owned Mexican restaurants was literally right across the street from all the damage and they only had broken windows. I ate there yesterday and took this photo.

Here we go again...tornado on the ground in central Missouri with many more having the characteristics of forming.
All the necessary ingredients in a widespread area for these supercells to spawn their wrath.
just unreal.
We have no threats down here but they are expecting record highs today...over 90F or 32-33 C which is just ridiculous for this time of year. Thank god for swimming pools.

Spent my lunch hour in a shelter as did most people in the KC area. Several tornadoes touched down, and the town of Sedalia which is located East of Kansas City in Missouri has been hit very, very hard.
Here is the wall cloud downtown today at 1pm:

Talked to my brother last night and CBC had a story where they put the typical yearly deaths due to tornados and then what we've seen this year. 55 or so is average. This year we are well over 400. Just crazy. The Joplin one was an EF5 which make up a fraction of one percent of all tornados. To have that hit a major population center is just odd. Especially on the heels of the Tuscaloosa one.
As part of the the management team, today we went and dug through the destroyed houses of a couple of our employees to find things. The scene is absolutely unimaginable. Still for one employee we managed to find his three safes with all there important documents and surprisingly his work computer which looked completely untouched and was 100% dry despite his house not having a rubble pile higher than 2 or 3 feet (100 % levelled). Across the street is a house missing every wall but the front and a bit of one side. On the second floor you can see a closet that has all the clothes hanging in it as if they had just been put there. Meanwhile 40 feet away our guys minivan was tossed a 100 feet.
Take care again today and tonight everyone. Make it through this night and things are supposed to calm down a bit.
