Well said Yamer...i agree he speaks before he thinks ....but the stats he has with the flames are second to the best flme ever ....if Lanny's jersey can be retired with 406 points and a -3 with the flames ....then #14 should be in the rafters 830 pnts and a +148 ...i know this is the wrong place to post this but not all athletes are as well spoken as Jerome

I rarely post here but I am an avid daily reader. This thread is too hilarious for me to not post a few of my stories which range from funny to pretty cool.
1) I was 18 years old, drunk and at Cowboys. Most of the flames were there and a lot of people were going up and shaking there hands. Being a smart-ass, young and drunk, I go up to Jordan Leopold and and scratched my head like I am trying to recognize him. I asked "you're Elvis Stojko right?". Leopold laughed and seemed to think I was funny but I did the same thing to Chris Simon and he was not so thrilled.
1b) That same night at cowboys it was also my good buddy's 18th birthday. We were chatting it up with Marcus Nilson and he bought my friend a bottle of champagne to celebrate.
2) The flames were playing the Ducks at home and thanks to a family friend connected with the Duck organization my dad and I were able to go into the lockeroom after the game. We were standing at Teemu Selanne's stall and chatting with him when he proceeds to get ass-naked right in front of us and continue chatting completely nude. I still laugh about it today because unfotunately every time I see him on tv or hear his name I think about Teemu's peenu (if you know what I mean).
3) Thanks to the same family friend with the Duck's I was able to go down to the rink when we were visiting California. I was able to hit the ice with a few of the guys after practice and got to use Paul Kariya's skates, gloves and stick because they were the closest fit at the time. That was pretty neat.

One other sort of funny story was my cousin played hockey for the Peterborough Petes with Steve Yzerman from 81-83 and even though I remember going to a few games in Windsor and London, I was really too young to know what was going on with him. Well a few years later the same cousin got married and my dad had his bachelor or stag party at our house. All the guys came over and went swimming in our pool earlier on in the day while my dad grilled out. I was spending the night at a friend's house but she and I were by my pool that day drooling over all of the shirtless hot guys. It think we were about 13 or 14 years old and boy crazy. Steve Yzerman was in the wedding party, and he was swimming in the pool and he was very sweet to us, telling us we were going to be real heartbreakers some day. We really had no idea who he was until my dad told me later and my friend and I told everyone in grade 8 and grade 9 that Steve Yzerman thought we were hot. LOL We embellished that for sure!
Also, I was huge into basketball and every summer I went to a camp up in Northern Ontario. Every year they had a different pro at the camp each week, and one year we had Charles Barkley for a week. (Philly days) I got to be his helper that week and I had a lot of fun goofing off with him, it was a really neat time. Years later, it's the first time I fly to Phoenix to meet my future in-laws. They are absolutely crazy for the Suns, watch every game, etc. We get in the elevator at the airport after meeting and who's in the elevator but Barkley. He had a floppy beach hat and was obviously trying to ignore people but he's pretty hard to ignore. My future mother in law elbows her husband and whispers 'THAT'S CHARLES BARKLEY OH MY GOD' and he looked at her and looked at me and looked and me again and said my name and gave me a hug! He remembered me. My in-laws told that story to everyone they knew, and I was IN with the family from that moment because Charles Barkley knew who I was. Not a hockey story but kind of cool nonetheless.

I remember i was fortunate enough to catch one of Rockys 25 Nhl games down at the dome once. This was during the years of futility, I think Rocky had like 3 shifts all game, 2 of them he scraped and the third he drew a penalty giving the flames a PP. Anyways the third period rolls around and theres not much to cheer for, so the crowd starts chanting ROCKY!! ROCKY!! over and over. anyways continued on and on throughout the entire third period, probably the loudest chants the dome saw for many years. Unfortunately, I can't remember who the flames coach was at the time, but he refusd to bend to the will of the mob and sat Rocky the rest of the game and was subsequently sacked(okay i may have made up the last part)
How one player who probably saw less icetime in his flames career then Iginla sees in a week can we so well remembered 10+ years down the line is outstanding.

Here is my story and I hope you all like it.
I was walking to the Starbucks in Westbrook Mall when this large truck zooms right in front of it, and out pops Neon Dion. He gets out, without even turning off his engine, letting the fumes from the tailpipe waft in the general direction of the group of senior citizens sitting on the sidewalk tables enjoying their morning cup. I follow him into the Starbucks, where he cuts in front of everybody in line. Some people complain and tell him to get in line, and he turns back, smiles with the biggest $#!+ eating grin I've ever seen, and says "You chirpin'? You chirpin'?" He orders a vente double cream chai tea latte, and then heads out of the store without tipping, only to find his truck is now missing! He slams his vente double cream chai tea latte on the ground, splashing some of the seniors sitting near, and starts to curse and mutter every expletive known to the English language in front of a kindergarten class passing by there on a field trip, then punches the first hobo he sees in the nuts and then sets him on fire with his Ed Hardy lighter. He gets on his iPhone 3G and a few minutes later, Elisha Cuthbert comes roaring into the parking lot in a Maserati to pick him up for practice. He gives her butt a good feel before getting into the passenger side.

WOW what a great way to spend a afternoon at work... Today went by much faster than yesterday.
Also, we are so damn lucky to have a guy like Jarome. I know it is said on here daily but he is such a class act. If all players were like him it would be easy to justify the money they make. Conversely Dion....nuf said.

I've only met 1 NHL player in person - I met Marty McSorley at a surf shop in Huntington Beach. I think I had a Team Canada toque on, cause he asked me where I was from and when I replied, 'Calgary' - He gave me a smirk and a look like he was going to jersey me in the store. Thankfully he just laughed and he had some small talk about living in Socal and surfing. BIG dude and pretty cool guy

On the last day of Movember, I asked Robyn Regehr if I could get a picture with him for my mospace. He was really cool about it, and his brother took the picture. I felt really embarrassed asking him about it, but I really love the picture.
My moustache was much better than his, I must admit.
His son and my daughter had the exact same Hallowe'en costume this year which probably would have been more embarrassing to them if they were older.

This was around the time, that Kidd was on his decline in Calgary, yet I was still somewhat a fan. My brother was a goalie at this school too, and idolized Trevor. Goalies have this weird afficionado with equipment, so all the kids yearned to try on Trevor's catcher, or check our his helmet. Trevor though was always so anal with his gear (Luongitis), so only one or two goalies would get to check it out (under Trevor's close-watch), as part of a reward for their performance that day...
|
I remember going to that goalie school back in the day. I got a pic of me in full gear (minus the helmet) posing in front of Kidd's mask at that camp, man I loved that thing. I remember being so nervous of accidentally hitting it when I was lining up to pose behind it. I really liked Kidd back then, and a lot of it had to do with his gear. Mask was all-time, and loved his yellow gear with red flames on the ends. So sick. I remember during poke checking drills, Kidd was going to come in on us so we could poke it away (which we were all excited for, as he hadn't done anything with us on-ice himself yet), but before we started, one of the instructors warned us not to poke too hard, in case we end up taking him out and putting him on the IR or something, so we were all so nervous of hurting him that we were giving the wussiest pokes haha, I remember Kidd looking confused at how bad we all were doing.
I've heard he was a dick though. About a year or two after that (96-97), my older cousin Brandy was living with us at the time, and one night was going out with some friends and for whatever reason Trevor Kidd was going to be there. I was pumped and gave her my Kidd jersey (yes I actually own one. I feel shame) to get it signed. Fast forward to the end of the night when she came home. I excitedly asked if she got it signed, and she angrily whipped it on the couch and said something to the extent of "I'm not getting that POS to sign anything!!", she just haaated him. I won't go into details but it had something to do with extra-marital stuff going on with Kidd while they were out, my cousin was just disgusted with him.
I'll give him credit for one thing though, at least he was actually at his own camp (though sparingly). The year before I went to Theo Fleury's hockey camp at FLC also, and I never saw him even once the entire time. Reminded me of Camp Krusty. We want Crunchy!

In 1987 I started working for the EMS service out in the Turner Valley area. One night after parking the ambulance at the local Fire Hall, I started to cross the street to go down the road to my place. I'm not sure who didn't see who, but about half way across the intersection this car comes out of nowhere and I saw it at the last minute and dived out of the way. Laying in the middle of the intersection I look up to see the car door open, and who should get out but Bearcat Murray! I figured if ya gotta go, you might as well be run over by Bearcat, that's gotta be an automatic pass through the pearly gates lol

In 1984 I was six years old and went for surgery at the Children's Hospital for a deviated septum. I was pretty freaked out and upset, waiting in the lobby on the day I checked in.
I wasn't paying attention to anything, but a guy walked up to me and my mom nudged me and said "who's that?"
Looked up - bigger than life moustache. Lanny. He shook my hand, gave me an autograph and wished me good luck. One of the greatest moments of my childhood.

Actually, that reminds me... not so much as awkward, as stupid.
When I was in High School, our family was members at Cottonwood G & CC. One day I am looking at the members phone list, and notice Dana Murzyn's number on it. I hated Murzyn, thought he was the pylon that all pylon's worshiped. Anyway, every day for about 2 months, at lunch hour, we would make a call to his house, from the Dr. EP Scarlett High school payphone, to remind him of what a pylon he was. We stopped when all of a sudden, we noticed the school resource officer hanging out by the phone every day.
Kinda feel bad now, as it was pretty uncalled for.

I'm close friends with Kidd's wife's brother.
So I contacted him and asked.
He says that he did in fact know and didn't care. Disabled or not disabled the kid should have been able to shoot better than that. Or at least the guy should have found him a better shooter.
I have never met Trevor Kidd or anyone associated with him!
