Morton could end up one of those sneaky-good signings. His name wasn't mentioned in a lot of those "NCAA Free Agents to Watch" articles we've seen, but there he is, up there with the Hobey Baker finalists.

Lol. In all seriousness, the scrutiny is so constant, CP even hired dino to defend the Flames full time!!
Calgary is by far the softest sports market in Canada. Flames have been one of the least successful NHL organizations over the past 30 years and you would never know that by the media vibe and to be fair I like the Calgary media but since Dowbiggin and occasionally Francis the local media is rarely critical of the Flames. There's a fine line between overly critical such as the Vancouver and Toronto markets and the Ned Flanders style Calgary market coverage and don't get me wrong I much prefer Calgary media to Vancouver or Toronto it would be nice for some of the local guys to start asking hard questions every once in a while.

The Hobey Baker Award is based on a players performance for that year. A players age and NHL potential is not factored in. A number of really good players have won, along with a number of non prospects.

Yet he has a NHL contract.
No allusions other than maybe he can be a complimentary player in the organization.
^ It's probably because the '04 run feels way more recent than 20 years ago.
As a younger fan you probably take it for granted but it's one of those things that if it happens again you gotta just soak all of it up because you never know how long it will be until it happens again. Just watch Penguins support deteriorate in the coming years as those fans simply have no idea how good they have had things for the last two decades. Save for 2004 the Flames fans have had a handful of good regular season results and little playoff success and that's it. No deep playoff runs to get the city excited like 2004. You just have to hope the organization can hit on a few franchise players in the draft and build something but it's tough to do for Canadian cities where patience is often lacking.

This is the problem, the organization doesn't take things seriously enough. There's a reason we are one of the least successful teams in the league over the last thirty-four years. We're competing with organizations that are looking for every possible advantage, like hoarding players on LTIR to beat the salary cap. There's no accountability and any time someone makes a mistake, it is "no big deal."
I think you are wrong. Do you really think this team spends to the cap every year for sharts and giggles?

That's what makes the performance even worse. Since the 2004/05 lockout, we've won the same amount of playoff series (2) as the Phoenix/Arizona Coyotes. At least they don't try to pretend to be a serious organization.
He looked great in game, considering it is first pro with a team he met days prior, his performance was pretty amazing honestly.
Was not afraid to get in the "mix" and did not back down on the physicality side but made sure they were not risky plays. He was fast but from what I could tell in his passing he was not used to being on pace or possibly slower than others on the team, his passes while clean and well thought out they were not precise and would normally land in between the players legs on stride, before the end of the game he made adjustments however and they were correct. Stickhandling and game sense seemed good, and he made some great plays (stick lift/steal at blue line edge in order to keep in attacking zone). Also was good in the faceoffs.
He did have one not great turnover but everyone else shut down the play.
Really good addition to the Wranglers camp so I am excited to see the progression over the next few days when he gets familiar with everyone.
