Guys were talking about Gawdin on the fan (Lou) and he was saying he expects him to be a very very good player for the flames .
Said specifically he has incredible vision and can find anyone on the ice at any time.
Sounds like a player to watch for.

Lou always gushes over junior players. I sure hope he's right but I'll believe it when I see it.

Former Flames camp attendee Brayden Burke has signed an ELC with the Coyotes.
Given that Burke and Gawdin have similar pts/g this season in the WHL, will be interesting to see which one will have the better pro career.
Burke likely has more offensive upside but Gawdin is likely the more complete player.

Burke is small and slow. Would be surprised if he became anything more than another Justin Azevedo.

In a weird coincidence all but one Flames CHL prospects in games tonight lost in extra time. All of them lost as well making it a tough night for the organization.
Joly another 2 assists +1 in a 6-5 SO loss. 8 game point streak 6g+9a in that span.
48gp 22g 40a 62pts +2
Ruzicka 1a -2 in a 6-5 SO loss. 3 game point streak 2g+5a in that span.
58gp 35g 36a 70pts +21
Gawdin 1a +1 in a 5-4 SO loss. 24 game point streak - 23g + 24a in that span.
64gp 55g 65a 120pts +59
Valimaki 1a -1 in a 5-4 OT loss
34gp 11g 22a 33pts +11
Fischer still injured.
Schneider made 25 saves on 29 shots in a 4-3 OT loss
56gp 3.70GAA .885sv% 18w 28L 0so
Philips 1a +1 in a 2-1 OT loss
64gp 44g 58a 100pts +21
Dube 1a +1 in a 4-2 regulation loss
47gp 32g 39a 71pts +13

Gawdin really wants the WHL scoring title. He played through the flu tonight and picked up a 1g+1a before being pulled from the game in the 3rd due to worsening flu symptoms.
He currently has 124 pts, up 6 on 2nd place Jayden Halbgewachs

Be very wary of 20 year olds racking up points in their 5th year of junior. Would be a nice reclamation project, but there is a reason the Blues walked away from him.

Sorry, meant to say, Gawdin is certain to score 600 goals and 1300 points in the NHL!

No AHL team and existing prospects with showier junior/college numbers are the big reasons.

Junior or college numbers rarely come into the equation when it comes to signing a prospect. Players are scouted for their ability and projected as to whether they have potential to make it at the next level. To suggest Gadwin got passed over because of other players with showier numbers is using the Oilers scouting mentality. The Blues didn't extend a contract because they didn't see potential in him. Period. That was the Blues perception of him, which may be right or wrong. It is up to Gadwin to see who was right.

No, but his career numbers certainly do. We are talking about a player who has five full seasons under his belt, and a kid who played his first games in the WHL when he was a wee lad of 15. He's been a pretty consistent 60 point player after his rookie season. He managed to play his previous two years at a PPG level. His overage year has seen a massive spike, almost doubling his production. Looks pretty much like the overage spike.

I am glad that the Flames signed a talented kid. I look forward to tracking his progress and seeing what happens. It isn't a bad move.
|
Agreed. I like having guys that show they can find the net, especially right handed shooters. Having said that, it is crazy for someone in the media to be suggesting that a player like this is going to be a "very very good player for the Flames" and "someone to be watched." We need to guard against falling into the same traps we mock Oiler fans for.

I will tend to believe what Peter Loubardias, who follows the WHL thoroughly, with a background that is well known and thoughts that are extremely respected in NHL circles over a poster named "New Era" that I have no idea about his/her/their background and would fathom a guess no one in NHL circles even know exists.
But everyone gets predictions wrong now and again.

Cruickshank just posted an article in the Athletic about Gawdwin. Basically, being cut by he Blues, motivated Gawdwin to change his approach to “show them”
@TheAthleticCGY: Glenn Gawdin used being cut by the Blues as motivation to have a career year in the WHL. Does he have a future with the Flames? @ByCruickshank reports: http://bit.ly/2p1Qq2d
