Why even draft...players are all nearly half way to 40 and aging

Well in a roundabout way that's a good argument for buying him out. The contract is buyout proof, and we don't really want the player around anymore, so you keep the cap hit but remove the player. Reach the cap floor and start fresh with new players

Which is why he worries more about the effect of a sustained period of time when the team is bad versus the cost of an individual player. He's more concerned about revenues, which are fluctuating, than expenses, which are largely fixed, especially in a cap.

As a fan and consumer of this ‘product’ I am starting the rebiggle clock at the day #19 asked for a trade. I don’t care how Flames package or message it.
BT started this mess. I Love Conroy but it’s too generous to start the clock when he took over. An ‘under new management’ sign is just a distraction. It buys them good will but not time.
If we were more demanding fans that’s the position we’d take. But we are polite Canadians in a small city and we’re just lucky to have a team. I guess.
Fans in other leagues would hang signs at the arena and boo Maloney around town.

Ras, Kadri and Coleman should ALL be traded for the best futures packages you can get, and Buffalo sucking ballz for almost 20 years shouldn't be a factor in that decision.
If you don't want to be Buffalo then draft better, develop better and do a better job of identifying and retaining the talent that won't let your franchise fall into the death spiral.

Eichel situation hurt that franchise big time. Tons of teams did not want to trade for him and give him the green light on the surgery he wanted. Tanking hard to get McDavid and ending up with Eichel added years to the rebuild and his injuries were a big part of them having to start over.
|
The much weaker conference ain’t true at all. 91 points made the playoffs last year in the East (lower than the West), 91 points in the East the year before (lower than the West), 92 points the year before that in the East (lower than the West). I guess the East being better once every 4 years is about the average, but not sure how being worse makes the East the much better conference.

LOL
Good operators are always looking to reduce costs of doing business whether the business is profitable or not.
If you could be just as mediocre with a lesser cap hit then yes, Huby cost you money. They were not a floor team when they got him.
If you invested all that money into Huby, expecting playoff revenue, then yes, Huby cost you money

Some of you are now convincing yourselves that Rasmus isn’t being traded?
Oh lord.
Breathe, take your ativan and relax.
You’ll have your time to cheer, but most importantly get angry at the return no matter how good/bad you think it is!
In all seriousness, it’s coming to an end here… allegedly

Murray Edwards invests in distressed assets all the time - some make money and some don't. Huberdeau's salary is only relevant if it bites his profit, and only then in a big way. It doesn't at the moment. That said, Edwards is a Flames fan so he's probably as mad as any other about Huberdeau.

Please let it be true... I can't stomach another round of ownership-meddling whining
Or another round of analyzing the Tkachuk trade and when we should have started to rebuild, for that matter

Lmfao. People here are nuts, like might as well just move the team to Houston and we can all cheer and rip the Hitmen in their new arena for not drafting our favourite 16 year olds!

In the time that the flames have possessed Huberdeau, club value has increased a suspected 500 million, give or take. So you could argue that Huberdeau's participation has dramatically increased the owners collective net worth.
Of course, that would be stupid and pointless, but I feel like arguing over the yearly operating costs of a multibillion dollar sports franchise is also stupid and pointless.

Side track - sports teams valuations are crazy, and apparently based on a completely unique model from other businesses.

Those pages and pages of reactions to two stupid posts are keeping engagement here rolling, leading to high CP renewals and the associated fees. It's essentially funding your trip.

You seem surprised lol.
I was in PV when the Phaneuf deal went down. Hope this one works out better while you’re there than that one did.

We could keep the Wranglers. That way we’d all be cheering for the NHL team to send their best prospects down to the AHL and it would cut out most of the people who don’t watch the games because the AHL is terrible at keeping stats and the contracts don’t matter.
