"Nice Phone" vs. "OMG THIS IS FAST".
EDIT: The screen resolution on the 4 is double that the 3GS too, the iPhone screen is amazing.

Your best bet is to head to an Apple store and get your hands on both to try them out.
The iPhone 4 really is the better phone and you won't have to upgrade sooner. They're already releasing apps that are iPhone 4 exclusive and that's only going to get worse when the iPhone 5 is released.

What are your guys thoughts on what is the best screen protector for the iphone?
I picked up the Power Support HD Anti-glare screen protector from the Apple store today and have to say I am not impressed. It really seems to cut down on the quality of the screen.

Why are we not hearing anything about a new iPhone yet? Is this normal?

It's coming out in the fall, as opposed to spring/summer.
At least that's what people are saying.

Actually, the big rumor right now is that there won't be a new iPhone in 2011 at all.

Question about airplane mode on an iPhone 4. I know it disables your phone, GPS, and wifi functions, but does the phone continue to search for a network? I'm going to Europe next week and want to be able to use my iPhone to take pictures and videos, as well as listen to music. I'll probably use it on wifi at the hotel as well, but I don't want to get nailed with crazy roaming charges. Will leaving it in airplane mode prevent the phone from searching for and acquiring a cell signal while I'm there?

No, it won't search for a cell network. If you are worried though, just pop out the SIM card. It will pretty much turn your iPhone into an iPod Touch. You can still connect to wifi networks, but anything cell phone voice or data related will not be active on the phone.

Airplane mode with wifi turned back on iPod touches your phone. No need to remove the SIM. Unless you're paranoid.

Anyone else's iPhone 4 magically just slide into NO SERVICE for no apparent reason? Second time it's happened to me in two days.

My Rogers iPhone drops into no service territory whenever I drive by the Telus building near DeVry. I'm sure it has nothing to do with Telus, but my mistrust of them sometimes makes me wonder...

My phone slowly drops from 3G to no service over the course of long calls. Anything over 1 hour and I risk dropping the call. Usually I'll end the call with the signal being "o", whatever that means. 30 seconds after the call, back on Edge. 1 minute after it's back at 3G.
Probably not related to your problems, but an interesting quirk I've noticed over time with my phone. Maybe it's related to me holding the phone in my left hand, which is "antenna killer position"!

I just got a 4 today after having my 3G for nearly three years. What a difference.
Question - do the apps run in the background? When I re-open one, it seems to "remember" more where I was. If that's the case, should I be somehow closing them out differently so they aren't using up memory or data?

They don't really run fully in the background, unless they take advantage of specific limited functionality that Apple has exposed to background apps (play music, track location, etc).
Otherwise there's not much difference between it being in the background and being closed.. if the app developer has done a good job the app will remember what it was doing much better and there is some resource usage, but in theory the phone is supposed to keep track of that and fully close out background apps if necessary.
But if you are like me and obsessive about that stuff, then you can press and hold on any backgrounded app (after bringing up the task switcher), and you can then manually close them.

What's this task switcher? Sorry, this essentially all new to me. I can't believe how fast the Internet is working. Hell, everything is fast. Incredible.
