No doubt about it. I don't think Clark will be as patient as his father was (Lamar let Jack Steadman run the Chiefs with a losing record for something like 15 years). But I don't think he will be axing GM's after a year or two. The fact that he personally supports Herm Edwards shows that he is willing to see things through or give people some time.

Heckert is a terrific GM. Before being GM he was in charge of most of the personnel moves in Philly (drafting, free agents, etc.). Now it's mostly Andy Reid and Joe Banner who make the personnel decisions. IMO, the team hasn't drafted nearly as well since Reid took this over.

I like your thinking - forcing owners who sign dumb players like this to fix the NFL's retirement fund problem.

I was just guessing at the fund, all these fines go to one fund or another.

Chiefs Blog claiming Pioli may have signed with the Chiefs and an announcement is coming soon. (I know its an internet blog, but I have had virtually nothing to get excited about with the Chiefs this season, I can't help getting excited). According to the Blog, Len Dawson is claiming that Pioli is the new GM.

RUMORS MOUNT OF PIOLI TO CHIEFS
Posted by Mike Florio on January 8, 2009, 1:24 p.m.
We continue to be flooded with e-mails from folks who claim that Pats V.P. of player personnel Scott Pioli soon will be introduced as the new G.M. of the Kansas City Chiefs.
Though it’s our general understanding that these reports are premature at best, the tight lid that the Chiefs have kept on the situation makes it very hard to know precisely what in the hell is going on out there.
Len Dawson, formerly of the Chiefs and currently of KMBC-TV in Kansas City, generally cites “reports around the country” indicating that Pioli will be hired by the Chiefs before pointing out only the Eagle Tribune (your guess is as good as ours . . . actually, it’s in North Andover, Massachusetts) in support of the notion that the deal is done, and that the only step remaining is for Pioli to sign the contract.
Also, 610 Sports radio in Kansas City reported on Wednesday that the Chiefs have offered the G.M. job to Pioli.
Still, neither the Chiefs nor Pioli have said anything about the situation.

Okay gang, as many of you know I still have friends at the highest level in the Chiefs organization and have this info to share with full confidence: Scott Pioli is the new GM. His announcement will come Thursday or Friday at the latest. Clark and Scott are working out the finer points of his contract tonight, but the deal is sealed. Also, Clark informed Herm Edwards and his coaching staff that they will be released. All assistants can reapply through Scott.
I only share this information because I'm no longer with the team and it's fun to share that a new day is dawning at Arrowhead. Scott Pioli will quickly move to clean out the front office and hire a new coach.

Great hire if true.
I really thought Shanahan would end up there, but this would nix that completely.
See ya Herm.

Looks like the Phoenix Coyotes are not the only team laying off office staff.

I would love to see Roid Romo coach that team, just for one game. The sheer hilarity of it would probably entertain the masses!!

Broncos will name Josh McDaniels head coach.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3826234
Of the folks they interviewed, this was my #1 choice by far. Fits in with everything Bowlen said he wanted. Barring epic failure, this guy will be in Denver for a very long time.
Pretty happy with the choice!

An offensive minded coach? Didn't you guys want to fix the defense though DFF?
Interesting hire, hopefully he doesn't end up like Weiss and or Crennell.

I am sure that McDaniels will solicit the services of some defensive gurus. Pretty desirable position I would think.
I think you hire a coach that caters to the strengths of your football team and go from there.

I'd be interested to see if they go after a guy like Rob Ryan from Oakland. He's been able to do some pretty remarkable things there with some crappy players and apparently he wasn't too pleased about being passed over for the head coaching job there.

That could work, because I'd really like to see Denver try and sign their UFA all-pro cornerback.

I'm pissed that the Cowboys look like they are giving up on Garrett. Phillips needs to be fired and the job should be given to Garrett. I know that the Dallas offense struggled (the kindest word possible) at the end of the season but I pin the fact that the entire team (offense and defense) didn't show up on the Head Coach not the offensive co-ordinator. Garrett will be a good coach for a long time and Jerry Jones would be an idiot (if he already isn't one) to let him go.
