The way the season started I wouldn't have minded a swift tidy conclusion, but now that the plot has really picked up steam with an interesting new premise and compelling characters with so many directions they can go in, I'm hesitant.

Maybe killing Kurt leads to the big boss which sets up season 2.

It sounds like Clyde Phillips was being intentionally vague when questioned on whether New Blood would be coming back for a second season, so there's still hope.

I always got the sense that Olsen was just a red herring used to build Audrey's character (and also throw a distraction into who's the big bad, until it was revealed to be Kurt). The only scenes he was in at all were Audrey-related.

-Audrey cusses him outside of the tavern during the protest
-Angela asking for his heli to search for Matt, and him mentioning Audrey's motivations
-Audrey encountering him by chance when her car broke down

Don't see Harrison killing/turning Dexter in. He's just going to be alone again with absolutely no one to talk to about his issues.

So Angela still doesn't have enough to go off on even with the note and surgical screws. She's suspicious but needs actual concrete evidence. Unless they find the matching screw that Kurt gave him in the rubble but think Dexter had it on him when Kane abducted him - and could be passed off as an attempt to frame.

Kurt skipping town has to be more suspicious to her at this point. There is just too much pointing to him. I imagine she'll find his trophy room - and will be able to recognize a lot of faces. Some off of the missing posters on her wall of course, but definitely Molly and Lily. And Molly was a little sus of Dex but he saved her, and was getting major creep vibes from Kurt.

Ratings are really strong for this series, and Showtime generally does all they can to milk their popular series for as long as they can. Unless Clyde Phillips digs in and insists on killing off Dexter, I think it will be back.

Omg tonight's episode was just... magnificent.

I was very uncomfortable.

I think that if it was not the best, it was absolutely the most meaningful episode of Dexter in 12 years. I liked how the integral developments were acted out by the leads, it was very believable and well executed IMO.

Thank you, Clyde Phillips. I think this is the kind of impactful conclusion that fans envisioned way back during the original run. Not that B level soap opera nonsense that was season 8.

I actually had forgotten that Matt fit the code. I thought Harrison was going to bust his dad right there right after all that progress they made. That would've been awkward lol. I just remembered Matt as a therapeutic kill for Dex after abstaining for years, and that he was just a little ####. The boat incident slipped my mind.

I would have laughed if Harrison just noped the #### outta there when dexter killed Kurt. Sorry dad but this ain’t for me, not a psycho murderer like you! At least Harry knew Dex was a murderer and had him tested and ####. Dexter basically just assumed Harrison was a murderer with such flimsy evidence.

Was that a Twin Peaks reference about the coffee?

Dexter saw in Harrison what he experienced firsthand because they both came from the same childhood experience. And there were several incidences of the same "dark" tendencies that he witnessed in his son. It wasn't about confirming his son to be a murderer too before letting him in on it, it was about knowing where his urges may lead and getting ahead of it by offering the same that his dad offered to him.

He didn't force it on Harrison. Harrison insisted, and so his dad obliged and let him in.

It was actually kind of touching, and weird, and creepy, and vomit-inducing, and a lot of things.

But I think they nailed the execution of it. There are holes in the season's plot but how they executed this development for Dexter and Harrison was about as well done as you could draw it up.

It was something truly different from the usual formula of this show to witness Harrison witnessing the ritual. You could feel what he was feeling. And then you realize how sick you are for having enjoyed/savoured his kills for 9 seasons.


Also I loved Kurt's trophies. That was next level.

Harrison finds out that Dexter killed Angela but she didn’t fit the code. He decides that he needs to follow the code and Dexter needs to die.

Not sure it would be a popular way to end the show though.

Could absolutely see that if they had more runway left.

I'm not sure you can manage that in one episode, at least in satisfying way that isn't rushed and shows Harrison's internal conflict culminating in that decision to honor the code even against his own father. Would take too much character development to reach that point in a convincing way. Harrison is too enamored with his newfound bond with his dad right now.

But maybe that's why there's so much left to tie up. Because it's going to really end after a season 2.

There is too much to happen yet with Harrison for it to end here tbh. It feels like they just started a father-son dark duo story arc rather than being on the verge of a conclusion to everything.

And its actually a really good development in the show that could have some legs and keep people invested.

I do know one thing though: Angela/Deb 2.0 needs to go.

Harrison killing Angela might make the most sense. If he sees Dexter getting cornered, he may act out of fear or protection of dad.
Kind of like a young Jedi who encounters a conflict before his training is complete. There are lots of potential Luke-Vader dynamics here!

That was one of the best episodes of Dexter I've ever watched.

Watching him dismember Kurt's body was incredibly gruesome. I don't remember them ever showing that part of his ritual in such gory detail before, but clearly we're meant to be watching it from Harrison's point of view. He's seen everything now and knows exactly what his father is, which scares him a little bit in that moment. But by the end of the episode he seems ok with the whole vigilante justice aspect of it, and grows even closer to Dexter.


I agree we might end up seeing Harrison killing Angela in order to protect his dad. Seems like the most logical place for the story to go.

The blending in for Christmas part was really amusing too. They're both so similar.

Seeing them, two awkward predators out of water wearing ugly Christmas sweaters and thinking they're blending in flawlessly with no self-awareness but the girls not buying any of it was special.

Alcott is a perfect match with Hall.

I'm not sure Harrison offing Angela would be a "break the internet" ending though.

Maybe he takes out Angela then has to kill Audrey too because she catches him. And Dexter realizes the kid might be more stone cold than he is.

I don't know how you send the internet into a frenzy and keep the show going. I think one of the two has to die to make it a big bang kind of ending that was promised.

Maybe Angel is brought in as an expert on the Miami happenings and Dexter has to confront his old friend/kill him.. I don't know.

Or - and this is unlikely given the precedent the show has set for law enforcement lol - maybe Angela is actually more competent than every person that has tried to take Dexter down and actually busts him.

I have to believe that Dexter is caught and jail is next with the new blood taking over with the code as a non crazy ending.

The crazy ending would have Harrison kill Angela as she is about to arrest his father for life, which would make Dexter make the hard decision of going after his son as he now fits the code and does not kill the proper people

Harrison kills Angela (and maybe the daughter too). Dexter catches him and kills him because it doesn’t fit the code.

Or

Harrison kills the daughter and Dexter lets Angela catch/shoot/kill him because he broke the code. Dex escapes again.


I don’t see a scenario where Dex lets Harrison kill either of them and helps or know and does nothing. I also don’t think they’ll just end it with them getting caught and getting arrested. Maybe Harrison throws Dex under the bus, kills Angela while blaming Dex and lives happily ever after with the daughter? But for that to work, Harrison would have to kill Dex or else im pretty sure the daughter would be suspicious he was in on it.
