Hard pass. Even at $4.25/per

We have room for 1 veteran RD.
If Ras wanted to re-sign here for a reasonable term (5 years), I would welcome him back and trade Whitecloud for assets…it would make for an epic trade.
Ras would be a great captain and would likely appreciate CGY more after his adventures in Vegas.

If Whitecloud went for a 2nd, that would make it 3 months of Ras in exchange for Ras, a 1st, two 2nds, and Wiebe.

Moving on from Anderson, it’s time for the next generation.

Again you are going with hindsight...I posted that during the first period when their home announcers were talking about it.
The Flames have a better record since the trade. Vegas before last night was 30th in the league since the Olympics. Is 30th good? It hasnt gone well for them so far. Duh. Their coach split up Ras and Hanifin not me.

It's a fun idea. But stylistically Whitecloud might be a better fit for a developing team. Rasmus potentially takes PP time from Parekh and Brzu. And if he doesn't he's a little less useful than Whitecloud, who is a good partner for some of the young guys (and can play both sides).

Do you think they sign him?

Might be more from the loss of Whitecloud than from the addition of Ras. The addition of Whitecloud to the assets coming back made the trade much better than many of us initially thought.

Why trade Whitecloud who may actually be a superior player defensively?
At the very least I'd have conversations with Ras in July if he doesn't re-up with Vegas.
That they had "great" offers for ZW and didn't move him at the deadline tells me he's part of the plan going forward.

All I did was report a fact their home announcers were talking about. Their coach wasnt happy with his play (amoung others) and split him and Hanifin starting Ras on the third pair. Coach liked how he responded I guess and gave him more ice. That doesnt mean what I said before was wrong. There are multiple Vegas based articles questioning his play and I didnt write even one of them lol.
They regret the trade so far...like Boston supposedly offered him 8x9M. Does anyone think he gets even close now? Or has his stock gone down?
But no its totally me being a hater

It’s interesting that it hasn’t happened yet. Really depends on their playoffs (assuming they make it).
I know I give you a hard time but Flames were a below average team with all the apparent talent that Conroy traded away. I’m happy to let the rest of the league pay these guys big money while Flames start over.
Hanifin, Andersson, Weegar, Tanev, Zadorov sure sounds good on paper.
Honestly probably one of my fears is that Conroy tries to lock up too many guys to long term deals before any track record of consistent play and winning.

Of course, not doing this was the big criticism of Treliving with Gaudreau and Tkachuk.

None of the top guys Conroy has traded have lived up to the hype so far. I mean Kadri probably will short term playing with Nate but they are really cup or bust.
Markstom? Yikes
Lindhom/Zadorov/Tanev (short meh runs, didnt work out)
Hanifin meh
Ras less than expected so far they probably wont sign him and if they do it probably wont age well if he gets what he wants
Weegar remains to be seen, he helps them now...might not age well
If Im an ex Flame hater they are making it pretty easy on me in the Conroy era. I will be cheering pretty hard for some of these guys soon maybe but Im a little worried about Ras/Hanifin vs. the Oilers

Wasn't there some cap issues as to why they can't sign him, even a contract starting next season. Can't remember exactly.
As for signing guys long term before they or the team prove something..yeah I'm with you on that but ultimately you have to buy into some talent and hope you continue to build a team. I've seen a few comments about Dustin Wolf this season and his new deal that hasn't started yet but that's 100% a guy you buy into at an important position. Cooley has been a nice suprise but Wolf is five years younger. When goalies have an off year, or sophomore slump, the position magnifies the results.

"My understanding of the situation is that they currently only have $3.2 million in projected cap space for next season, which includes Alex Pietrangelo’s $8.8 million cap hit. But it’s not a big deal. Eventually, Vegas will obviously be able to put Pietrangelo back on LTIR for next season and, on July 1, the salary cap officially jumps in a big way. Even before then, the Golden Knights could move money out after the season, in May or June, depending on how long they play this spring. The point is, they will eventually be able to extend Andersson, but they can’t do it right now. That is my understanding of the CBA rules." –Pierre LeBrun on TheAthletic.com

Taking a while to get to 5000

Petty of me, but given he said last year he'd only sign in Vegas then made sure he could only be traded there this year I kind of hope they don't sign him and he's left twisting in the wind a bit.

Boston had a 8x9M ready to go...I think Vegas is wait and see. I dont think the first couple months of him playing there has done anything to force their hand. Any cap issues may have saved their ass.

Rasmus and CGY are a done deal, I don't think either side would be open to it honestly.
No hard feelings either way, but the Flames are onto bigger and better things and Rasmus would rather compete for a cup anyway.

Thanks Royle, was definitely a reach when I posed the question. Any idea what kind of bigger and better things they might be looking to do? I do wonder if they make a play with all their extra picks to move up in the draft with Chicago?
