We're heading to one of my favourite places, The Himalayan, this weekend. I'm really looking forward to it since I haven't had much dine in over the last couple years. I could eat the dal bhat every day.

Calgary has a pretty solid restaurant scene for its size, but just based that, the math still doesn't suggest that we would have one quarter of the best restaurants in Canada. Since this is based on diner reviews, the only reasonable explanation (IMO) is that those diners are more generous.
I was in Edmonton recently and couldn't believe the places that were over 4.5 stars on google. Like every downtown lunch spot was a 4.4 - 4.5.

The issue with lists like this is you have no idea what the people reviewing have for expectations. Is Vin Room good? sure it is, i dont mind it at all; but compared to what?

The Himilayan is awesome. Have never had a bad meal there ever.

Had our team holiday lunch at Donna Mac today.

Went with the very tasty fried chicken sandwich. Will definitely be back.

Went to Cibo on Centre Street last weekend.

I think this is the same restaurant that used to be on 17th Ave but they moved? My dish (seafood pasta) was pretty good, but others did not seem too impressed with theirs. The service was also brutal and MEGA slow. After taking our orders, the waitress did not come back once to ask for another round of drinks, nor to ask how the appies were or to clear the table. When the main courses came (2+ hrs) all our dirty dishes had still been lingering for an unacceptable amount of time.

Was at Escoba for lunch yesterday. Havent been there in a while. Still solid!

This looks like the old Mister Chen's on 4th Street.

It's a big space that's been turned over a few times. Hope they make it work.

CBC restaurant reviewer did a butter chicken rating a couple of weeks ago. We tried Gate of India on Country Hills Blvd and it was pretty tasty, though maybe just a touch sweeter than I would liked. The chicken was really cooked really well and the leftover sauce was good with rice.

Honestly, for cheap and easy we do Shef's Fiery Kitchen. https://shefsfierykitchen.com/site/

The Co-Op in Auburn Bay has it.

It comes frozen so we always have one on hand.

Thaw it, cook some chick, chuck sauce in and let simmer for a bit.

Yummy and way easier than cooking it from scratch like we did previously

Moti Mahal is my favorite Indian place in the city still. Their butter chicken is a bit more on the spicy side, which I love.

We have been a few times and really enjoy it. Also did a take-home mother's Day meal and it was awesome. It is expensive but worth it in my opinion. My last 2 meals there were better than my last outing to Cesar's in Willow park.

Has anyone been to Spice Hut in the last few months? I've only eaten at Gate of India before and it was totally fine. Thanks to you guys I found out Spice Hut exists and is only a few blocks from home.

The recent Google reviews seem either 5 star or 1 star. I trust the opinions of this board over any of those reviews. I'm fairly new to Indian cuisine but I'm trying to eliminate red meat from my life and Indian sounds like it could be a delicious way to do that.
